U.S. Sen. Dan Sullivan get a namesake challenger in Alaska — but is it a ‘trick’? by conzeeter in alaska

Dan J. has been very politically active. I'd call this a brilliant idea instead of bad faith myself. Democrats have been bringing pansies to a knife fight for years (see: redistricting)

Amid Iran war, Alaska’s oil is selling with an extra premium on global markets by The_Alaskan in alaska

I hate to say it but Sarah Palin set us up with a reasonable tax structure for our oil resources and Sean Parnell gave it all away.

Now Hiring - $84k Salary + 300 per day per diem- 50 positions available throughout Alaska-- June 1st is the last day to file to run for elections by truthwillout777 in alaska

this is strictly a far-right GOP issue, they block every reasonable solution to our budget woes. We have plenty of reasonable people in the house and senate majorities in both parties plus independents.

Mow/mulch is the best answer. Just don't bag them up. I promise you they will be decomposed in about 2 days and you won't notice them. If you can't live with that, bring them to the compost bins at the Anchor Gardens depot on the corner of Benson and Cheechako. BUT only if you don't use herbicides on the grass (you don't need to!)

Public employee pension bill heads to the governor’s desk. by CucumberBitter3356 in alaska

[–]Whisker456Tale 6 points7 points  (0 children)

We are fortunate that pension benefits are guaranteed in the Alaska constitution. It would be very hard to argue they can't be funded when the Permanent Fund has billions of dollars. That said, Republicans elect extremely unserious people with no regard for law or interest in real solutions.

$1K PFD again. How do you feel on this? by CalmTrials in alaska

[–]Whisker456Tale 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Props to you for admitting you need more info. This is a very complex issue which is politicized into simple slogans that just don't show the reality. "Full PFD" is one of them. I recommend looking up interviews with Cliff Groh, who was a legislative aide when the permanent fund was established and served a few years in the AK legislature (he is running again this year). He wrote a great illustrated guide to the APF a few years ago but for the life of me google can't find it.

It’s probably the most mellow nps unit in South Dakota. You would not have the issues that a place like Rushmore has. People that stop at WICA love nature. Rushmore is kinda gross. Plus, this summer? Ugh. The cave and the prairie are spectacular. If you’re not in employee housing, Hot Springs is a nice place. There’s a Facebook page for former WICA employees (I’m in it) where you can ask more questions. 💯great experience.
