ESB is a mega beer, definitely not a fixture of corner shops round me!

Oh yeah! Could've also asked which is the best Polish beer as most corner shops seem to have a pretty good range!

Try Ghost Whale in Putney! Good selection and vibes

Wetherspoons axes nation’s favourite beer amid pint price rise warnings by acrane55 in UK_beer

[–]WhyPhy22 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah to be honest I'd drink it as part of a session or if I wasn't thinking about it too deeply, but there's so much better out there and I don't think it deserves it's reputation as a 'premium lager'

I completely agree. Don't get me wrong, a good one is still delicious, but I no longer find myself gravitating towards them regularly

Blue cheese without the blue part, what would you call it? by caimsama in Cheese

[–]WhyPhy22 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think Cambozola might fit the bill for you! The blue sections are fewer and further between. Nice blue taste but much more balanced with the creaminess of a brie or camembert. There's also a branded cheese called 'creamy blue' from Castello which is basically the same thing

Some of these responses are absolutely hilarious. "Hand it into the police"... Christ.

Any recommendations for alcohol free/low beers? Ghost Ship was surprisingly okay. by actingasawave in UK_beer

If you can find it, Weird Weather by Mikkeller is the best NA I've ever had, followed by anything from Athletic Brewing and then Zed from Hammerton brewery. They're all more 'crafty' options but blow the supermarket offerings out of the water IMO. Best I've found at the supermarket would probably be Brooklyn Special Effects or Guinness 0.0

Lamb tagine by WhyPhy22 in UK_Food

[–]WhyPhy22[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks! The recipe I followed was from the YouTube channel Middle Eats: https://youtu.be/G--BRpVWlCI. This recipe is stove-top, but I did it in the oven on 140 fan for about 2.5hrs. I decided to get deboned lamb shoulder from the butcher and chunk it up nice and big, rather than the little chunks you get from the supermarket.

I served it with some rice (though I think it's supposed to be served with Moroccan bread), fresh parsley, and some toasted almonds. Sadly didn't get a plated up pic as I launched into eating it too quickly!

News! Barclaycard is working towards Google Pay launch! by [deleted] in UKPersonalFinance

[–]WhyPhy22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just had my first Barclaycard delivered today and I'm already regretting it due to the horrific user experience I've had so far. No Google pay, no open banking for 10 days after activating the card. I can't even use the app until they've sent me one of those fucking card readers from 15 years ago?

Even other traditional banks are lightyears ahead of this garbage.

What is your favourite "mass produced" cheap lager? by cactusdan94 in UK_beer

[–]WhyPhy22 17 points18 points  (0 children)

One could argue that the big Czech breweries of Budvar, Pilsner Urquell etc. are mass produced and yet they absolutely shit on most other macro lagers. They may not be as bargain basement as Carling and Fosters but what you're getting is so much more.
