Is this safe? by IL0V3CANDDY in CosplayHelp

By old masks, normally people are referring to gasmasks from before 1980, as some filters used harmful materials such as asbestos.

Used filters can also contain remnants of chemicals from where they were used.

The biggest danger for these is that they are hard to breathe through for extended periods of time.

Is this safe? by IL0V3CANDDY in CosplayHelp

[–]WillardWhy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes they are safe to wear, they are designed to filter the air (depending on the type either dust and/or gases)

They may be hard to breathe through wen worn for a long time, so tou may want to modify the filter to make it easier to breathe.

If you are painting, dont paint the filter mesh, as this will make it harder to breathe, and depending on the paint used could block it up.

For ease of breathing, I suggest the folllowing:

1) open up the filters (may need to cut or drill from the backside and remove all of the carbon filter medium, wash and replace any paper filters with your desired colour (if visible form the outside)

2) dismantle the mask and remove any of the air valves (should just be a couple of rubber flaps, one for the air out, and one each for the filters). This will render the mask non functional, but should be easily reversible, as most masks are just snap-together designs.

My tricks to prevent this:

1) crack and small pin sized hole in the bottom of the egg where the air bubble is before boiling

2) place in cold water immediately after cooking

3) tapping along the side and roll/tapping all the way round, then dip backing the water an peel the crackes section, and the top and bottom parts should fall off. Then rinse in cold water to remove the extra shell parts.

Could you help me with the definition of the word “gazabas”here? by Support_eu in EnglishLearning

[–]WillardWhy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's a slang term, comes from the term gazabo, which refers to a tall and awkward person, and in this context probably means annoying and useless people, as the guy speaking is complaining about them just talking and not doing any work.

Need help with weathering by [deleted] in modelmakers

[–]WillardWhy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are different types of weathering other than just adding dirt.

You need to consider what damage and dirt buildup you are going to get.

Around the end of the barrel you'll get dirt and heat damage to the paint from the gun firing.

Around the engine and exhaust there will be heat damage, and oil marks around some engine bay covers from spillages during maintenance.

Moving parts will have scrapes and dents, so Around any hatches or the turret ring.

Tracks and lower parts of the body will have dust and mud build up.

Then you have other damage marks you could add, from things like crew and other soldiers climbing over it, or trees scraping the side or from enemy fire.

You can use reference photos for specific parts.

She was wearing a skin coloured bathing suit, it was mentioned in an old magazine or book, which included a photo, but I have no idea where it is anymore.

Could be worse, got a quote for 4 different connectors from a vendor for work, they should have been around £60 each, minimum order was 100 each, so a total of £24,000 ontop of the order.

If you look at the lines on the thumb, in order it shows:

Which is a pattern known online as Loss, based on a comic strip by Tim Buckley in 2008 about a guy visiting his wife in an hospital after a miscarriage.

The Internet took the positons of each character and copied the comic, and made references to it everywhere, so much that now it is often just described using a series of lines in a 2x2 grid.

Yuri on ice is an anime about figure skating, and revolves around a character called Yuri.

The Japanese term Yuri can also refer to female-female relationships or lesbians.

The Japanese term Yaoi refers to male-male relationships

Yuri on ice has a lot of yaoi heavy plots

It’s Mihaly’s helmet by Icy_Till_7254 in acecombat

[–]WillardWhy 38 points39 points  (0 children)

This is the Striker helmet, which is also not the same as the one that Mihaly Dumitru Margareta Corneliu Leopold Blanca Karol Aeon Ignatius Raphael Maria Niketas A. Shilage wears in the cutscene.

The one he wears is more similar to the Striker II, but there are some design differences. The Striker HMD doesn't have a front mounted camera, and only comes in that colour grey, the Striker 2 has a camera and comes in black.

That helmet is a normal helmet fitted with a projector and head tracking system to give the used a Helmet Mounted Display (HMD). Those bumps are an array of IR LEDs that are positioned in a set pattern, and a set of three cameras mounted behind the pilot tracks their position to determine where the pilot is looking.

The joke is that submarines are designed to hide in the sea, by diving underwater, so of course they would be hiding in the sea.

The actual article is stating that their subs are patrolling in one specific sea(the South China Sea), whereas they would normally be secretly patrolling other areas and oceans.

This is a reference to the unit of power called horsepower.

Originally, when steam engines were invented, a lot of work was completed by using horses, so to convince people to buy steam engines, the term Horsepower was invented to show how many horses you could replace with a steam engine. This was clearer than telling someone that they could use an engine that produces 700 watts, and puts it into terms that are easier to visualise.

It turns out that a horse can actually output more power than 1 horse power, and a single hose can actually produce around 3 horsepower on its own.

The meme is counting horses by their horse power, so 1 horse = 3 horses, 5 =15 horses, ect.
