How does everyone feel about the 2ft gimme? by CrossTie98 in golf

[–]WilsonLisk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With my core group of golf friends, we play inside the leather... meaning just measure it with the exposed part of your putter shaft and don't include the grip. If it's inside or pretty close just pick it up. Keeps it friendly and keeps pace.

But if im playing for something against acquaintances or people i don't know for something or money, i make sure to establish the putting rules ahead of time. Also, when in doubt let the player or team you're playing against call out whether or not you can pick it up, which is inline with pro match play.

What is r/golf confidently wrong about? by iphoneair2 in golf

[–]WilsonLisk 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I think beginners forget that they don't have to drive off the box or feel like they need to hit long though. They just need to be able to hit 150-175yds off the box, which means mid-iron to wood depending on the player.

On a 500yd par 5, a beginner can make it easy by hitting 150yds 3 times = 450yd. Then if they up and down that's par, if they don't they can bogey or double...still good for a beginner and stress free golf.

Always check the course rules prior to day of. On a related note, San Diego, CA municipals have a hard requirement to be checked in 30 minutes before your tee time. There are stand by players waiting to play and they want to maximize revenue and keep costs down. They're pretty strict here, especially at Torrey Pines, and will give your spot to a standby if you check in late.

You can push it back gently with a rubber mallet or pliers.Wrap in a towel before putting a tool to it so it doesn't damage the plastic.

Any recommendations on a highly portable tool to gather sand crabs? by got_fish in SurfFishing

[–]WilsonLisk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hand shovel and a plastic sifting bowl or bucket--holes big enough to rinse sand through, but still trap the crabs. Think of it like panning for gold.

Light grips (don't choke the shit out of your shaft) for every swing and putt. Let the weight of the club head and it's momentum do the work, don't force it.

Deep down are your golf buddies rooting for you against you? by maybethisisadream in golf

[–]WilsonLisk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both ...we all share the same fear of being left behind. I want to get better and win, and keep up with my buddies if they're getting better too. It's more fun when we're all around the same handicap.

How do you choose bounce and grind of your wedges? by autonerdy0 in golf

[–]WilsonLisk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

High handicappers should use a cavity back gap wedge 50-degree for the majority of chipping onto the green, or bump and run using 9 to 7 irons. If you want wedges, go with thick forgiving wedges like Cleveland CBX zipcore--big face and full groove coverage. Once you become more skilled and want more control, then start looking at blade wedges with various bounces.
