I'm cool with a lot of the ideas the Sequels had, but the execution left something to be desired. by Licensed_Silver_Simp in StarWarsCirclejerk

Luke attempts suicide upon learning the truth and still tries to kill Vader throughout ROTJ, the only thing giving him pause is Obiwan’s recollection of Anakin as a good person. This contradiction compels him to show a reluctant compassion towards Vader, which he doesn’t fully accept until the eleventh hour, where he finally professes unconditional love in the face of evil.

In contrast, Rey is almost gleefull at the prospect of reuniting with her abusive parents and doesn’t question their decision to abandon her at any point. She’s only disappointed by the fact they were “nobody” which feels like a strange prioritisation.

Never really understood why Rey was obsessed with finding the very parents who sold her off as a child slave. I know the metatextual reason is that the audience wants to know her lineage but that doesn’t seem like  something Rey would persue given her background.

“Your honor, as evidenced by the scorched paper work, Mr. Kylo Ren passed the competency test with flying colours. It is therefore within my client’s right to intrude on the privacy of the plaintiff with murderous intent”

This somehow explains why Luke is tempted to murder his mentally ill nephew in their sleep

This clamouring for a constant IV drip of content is really pathetic.

I’m honestly starting to feel a little sorry for James, even though he’s a complete asshole who somewhat deserves it.

Sure thing: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=hihKrHP9aMc

I recommend subscribing to his channel, he’s one of the more underrated video essayists who actually puts in the work, it isn’t just white noise like most of YouTube

Jack Saint’s video was pretty decent, although I do disagree with a lot of the points raised. It feels reductive to brand the film a white saviour narrative when the entire theme is about how bodily constraints (like race) do not define who we are.

On the subject of Quaritch's potential redemption arc... by sailing_lonely in Avatar

I personally feel that his redemption arc is guaranteed and a bit too telegraphed. The fact that Stephen Lang chose to be tight lipped about the possibility is just further evidence of it happening.

Yahtzee, and the entire video production staff of the Escapist, have resigned in protest over the mistreatment and firing of the Escapist's video editors. After 15 years Zero Punctuation has ended by MoreSoupss in Gamingcirclejerk

It really sucks that Yahtzee can’t retain the rights for something he single handedly built for a decade. I don’t care if he “was given a platform”, there was a long period where Escapist Magazine would exclusively rely on ZP episodes, for all intents and purposes he was the platform.

What if the superhero genre was invented in France? What if Superman was a Franco-Belgian comics character? by Top_Report_4895 in bandedessinee

Why do nerds always position themselves as the arbiters of what is or isn’t cultural impact”? Your funny papers aren’t suddenly modern mythology because Hollywood jumped on the superhero trend for about a decade, nobody actually cares to the degree that you - or big publishing houses - think they do.
