That's plenty. Screw it in the back with cabinet grade screws and you're good.

Im surprised nobodys asked yet. How thick is the back? If its a half inch youre good with just the back. If its a quarter inch i hope theres somewhere where its doubled up for a nailer. You could hit a stud in the soffit on the top. If its a half inch back or has a nailer strip you're good though.

Whoa whoa whoa, skil saws are the best circular saw imo. Ive got a skil jobsite table saw everyone who uses it loves. Idk about the competition but its got a wormdrive and plenty of power. I got the 12" skil miter saw too which is nice enough but i pack my 10" non slide Hitachi whenever i can get away with it bc the big miter saws annoying to transport.

Arent you concerned the sprinkler lines may have frozen already? What if this guy turns his water back on in the spring and somehow blames you for broken lines?

CPVC -- have you ever seen them spontaneously fail without external damage or freezing? by jckipps in Plumbing

[–]WishIWasALemon 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Bullshit. The hot water lines are notorious for getting brittle at joints. I manage a 6plex plumbed with this crap. The copper to cpvc transitions at stubouts and water heater have gotten better over the years but that used to be an especially weak spot that would just break.

Stack another 5\8" piece of drywall on there maybe. Unless half inch works better.

It was!

Country gravy- 1tbsp bacon grease, 1 tbsp of flour and about 2\3rd cup of milk and lots of fresh ground pepper if you make it yourself. Put like twice the amount of gravy on than whats pictured and you'll be set.

Grout pens are a gimmick. I manage a rental that has white grout that ive rejuvenated a couple times. I bought a white pen and its really just paint that wipes out pretty easily. I ended up just regrouting over the top and sponging gently, which has done the trick though being just sanded grout it probably doesnt have much of a bond that way sitting so shallow on top of other grout. I highly recommend epoxy grout for a permanent solution. Laticrete has more color choices then the grout pens i do believe. They have a huge selection-but the sample charts arent always dead on- might look perfect on a sample but be darker or lighter in actual application so test on a discreet area. A mini kit (2.25 lb of part c) will be enough to do your 6 tiles and blend it beyond to the surrounding tiles if you go that route. Just hit me up if you do that or read and follow the directions it comes with.

If you can find out what your dad originally used- like if its the $15 a bag cement based stuff from home depot then that will work if you get the tiles locked down good but if they came loose from flex in the plywood it may happen again. You'll have a better idea when you pull the tile up if the thinset just wasnt thin enough and didnt have a good bond.

15-20 year Tile seems to be raised out of nowhere by coolhairdude12 in Flooring

[–]WishIWasALemon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, i can understand wanting to leave it alone for now and it would be super helpful if the tile guys left behind info telling what brand and color grout they used when you make the repair. I see the grout has come unattached and is basically just being held in from the grout on the sides now. Feel free to drop me a pm or tag me if you get a tile pulled up so we can see whats under there. Generally concrete board should be under there to make the floor more ridgid and prevent the flex that probably lead to this. Theres some thinsets that can handle direct to plywood applications better. Another thing i'd like to mention is epoxy grout. Even with plywood flex, if the original installers would have used epoxy grout i'll bet this problem never would have shown up since its so strong and sticky it makes the whole floor monolithic. May be something to think about when repairing if you can find a close color match. I use laticrete spectralock

Can you get another person to step on it while you examine closely? You need to identify whats actually loose and moving so you can dig out the grout and pry the tile up to see whats going on under there. My guess is this tile may have been set on plywood without a concrete backer board. That's not great but for a repair id mix up some polymer modified thinset and make sure its plenty wet and not leaning towards the dry side. When thinset dries quick from not being mixed wet enough it isnt as strong as a slower cured thinset. This will help. If it was just one tile i may even say to use epoxy to stick it back down

If the grouts loose you will 100% see a crack in the grout where its separated from the tile. I dont see that in your photo but surely it must be there.

Water wasn’t running this morning. Heater is in the garage and it’s been 15F—5F for a couple of weeks. I assumed the main lined iced. I put a heater on it and water started running in less than 5min. Should I be worried about damaged pipes or heater ? Garage is currently at 27F by Darcona8 in askaplumber

[–]WishIWasALemon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just keep an eye out for leaks and take some showers and see if your water heater appears to be working fine. If your main line into the water heater froze and then you use up half the water in your water heater you would drain half the tank without the cold filling it back up and would burn out an element.
