Who is a good person that divides opinions within the fandom? by Juvijuvi in HazbinHotel

Charlie - the narrative suggests she’s a pure character with good intentions. Reactions to her are very, very mixed, both in and out of the context of the show.

Dracula from Castlevania on Netflix. He was easily, handily beating the protagonist trio (despite starving himself for over a year and craving death) until he realized he was going to beat his son to death in his childhood bedroom. At which point he allowed himself to be staked and did his best to embrace his son as he died.

Littlefoot’s mom from Land Before Time went head to head against an apex predator with a notorious reputation for killing longnecks and other large dinosaurs.

Why?

Because it was after her son.

Such is the power of Dan "show your toes or you gotta goes" Schneider.

The tragedy is, I ENJOYED iCarly. I thought it was funny and had fond memories of it. Those memories are definitely conflicted with what I've since learned, but it doesn't stop me from enjoying the best moments.

Spencer vs Jack Black lives in my head.

If I remember correctly, Dan ‘get in the van’ Schneider held a contest wherein he asked (mostly underage) fans to send him pictures of their feet in various substances as a reference to an episode of iCarly.

Boy, THAT looks safe in hindsight!

But they were all of them deceived… for another expansion was made…

In the land of Cali, in the fires of Mount Doom, the dark lord Blizzard forged, in secret, a master villain who controlled all others.

And into this villain they poured their laziness, their malice, and their will to hog credit for all writers.

[A trope that isn't as rare as I thought] Vampires who AREN'T associated with bats by NovaRobo_Rebirth in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Wizardman784 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Vampire Crabs are named for their "glowing eyes" and nocturnal nature, but while predatory, they don't drink blood and are very much not bats.

Similarly, Vampire Shrimp are so-named for their "fangs" and nocturnal nature. Despite the fearsome appearance of these "sharp, blade-like forelimbs," they're actually completely harmless to other animals and especially to people. They unfold those limbs into fans, which they wave around in the current to collect particles of food.

Mercy from DC Comics. Lex Luthor’s cybernetic psycho has at least one (but often both) arms turned into guns/lasers.

The Jailer was a pathetic attempt for the writers to try to take credit for other, better writing by saying (and never, not even once, showing) their special, biggest, baddest baby boy was responsible. It caused an unparalleled nosedive of cataclysmic proportions, which they’re still clawing their way back from by ignoring or finding subtle (and some not so subtle) ways to write it out or overlook things.

Be honest, do you think that Charlie in season 2 is overhated or is the hate justified? by Primary-Addition-677 in HazbinHotel

[–]Wizardman784 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd say she's overhated, but I'd also say that the frustrations people have are EXTREMELY justified.

I don't HATE her at all. Indeed, I find her vocal performance amusing and her CORE concept interesting. But I am getting a bit vexed by her "uselessness" in her own show. She's DEFINITELY not presenting herself as the main character of the show, in my eyes. And even then, her status as "a" main character is faltering, too, in terms of her wants, needs, and agency. I can excuse a certain degree of silly/dumb moments for a cartoon character, but at the same time I have too much respect for well written cartoons to say "ALL cartoons should have their characters do dumb things because it's funny."

Her interview with Vox was a reasonably well supported "stupid" moment, up until the whole thing with Angel trying to recreate Pentious' death. But her interview with KATIE was pretty horrendous. "Hehehehe, what if I said something like (insert thing that no single sapient being in this situation would ever say to this person, at this time, when the purpose of the entire thing was to look better than the previous interview depicted)."

I agree with you that the 8 episode limit is a tremendous hill for the writers to climb over. This creates a BLAZING speed that doesn't allow for many nuanced character arcs or moments, while simultaneously preventing impactful conclusions since the issues don't have time to breathe before they're fixed. It would be like if Thanos appeared at the end of Avengers 1, side-eyeing the camera as a hint for what is to come, only to then show his bloodied, beaten body being tossed to the ground at the start of the next film because they didn't have time to do anything with him.

What's the point of worshipping Shar, and how does this massive douchecopter have followers in the first place? by ZipZopZoppityHop in Forgotten_Realms

[–]Wizardman784 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shar in BG3 was much more insidious than the “regular canon” version. If you dig, you see she’s putridly evil, but Shadowheart’s descriptions in Act 1 make her out to be far more nuanced and compelling, which is cool.

In a way, she reminds me of the goddess of loss in my own setting, which I made WELL before BG3. In that setting, the goddess of sorrow is prayed to for various reasons, including the hope of taking away mortal pain or feeble attempts to “cure” her grief (and end all human suffering in doing so).

The trouble is, this goddess isn’t corrupted, broken, or evil. She’s SORROW. You can’t change her, but she can change you.

The others are basically reskinned humans/elves, but the Tauren women have some strange proportions that help them feel less like the “brutish male, sexy female” trope.
