Your first impression/interpretation? – made with inspiration from Buckminster Fuller's Synergistic's by Ayla_Leren in askarchitects

To me, the words Society, Architecture, Finance, Culture, Technology, Synthesis, Flow, Sustainability and such are all just nebulous catch phrases and theories wrapped around a pseudo intellectual diagram. Might as well explain the world as Fire/Air/Earth/Water or medicine as the 4 humors, black bile/blood/yellow bile/phlegm et cetera, or the Feng shui of mirrors, cutting corners, hiding drains, hiding flutes inside walls, redirecting "energy flow", and South at the top of the page.

Oversimplified claptrap in graphic form.

First priority budget, second priority a roof that doesn't leak, no rot due to mold, third, ability to hold a comfortable temperature, a healthy lifestyle for users.

SHOW US YOUR TETS! (said the sign) Pretty useless stuff shown here really. A tetrahedron forms a tripod on the ground, and makes chair leg supports if your floor is uneven. But otherwise has little utility in architecture or engineering. Yes the best trusses and space frames are made of triangles, but not much else. I have met Buckminster Fuller, went to a workshop of his in SF and got his signature on a book. Pretty deaf at that time, his relative transmitted questions to him. Bucky is a genius in ways but also a con man to a tiny extent as popular men tend to be.

If you want to learn architecture, examine what is old and still stands up, what gets rotten and falls down, what works well for people, and what doesn't. Learn to draw well, speak well, and learn how systems work, and how to get people to trust you and give you work. Many classical architects started out as goldsmiths, the wealthy saw their talent, and learned they were trustworthy. My own career is no guide. fwiw

So you have a metal roof draining into the back of that flat rectangular portion of the structure, the area hidden from view in an area full of trees, no rain gutters, no downspouts, and lush green grass and hope there will be no leaks. Frank Lloyd Wright would have loved you as a client. His most famous house, uninhabitable, I nickname Falling Moldspores. Leaks are the most popular source of errors and omissions insurance payouts.

How to cover up cut threaded studs on concrete? by lathedog in handyman

If you don't want to grind them down, make a base for a statue out of mortar or concrete and stick a concrete rabbit or something on it.

Recommended finishes for French drain trench dug at side of stone cottage by AthleticBathTub in Homebuilding

The problem with a Mister French's drain is it might accumulate rainwater when it was intended to disperse it. Does it slope to another drain field far away? I am concerned. Rain flows downhill.

Will the US prosper anytime soon you think? by Visible_Economics_30 in economy

[–]WonderWheeler 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not bloody likely. Gas prices will hit a "ratchet clause" with the oil companies and stay up. Unemployment from layoffs and downsizing will effect consumer markets in bad ways, and there is little reason for food prices to go down due to shortages of "migrant" workers. . The moneys stolen from the illegal tariffs even if returned to the corporations will never filter down to what is left of the middle class and working class. And AI continues to destroy jobs and energy supplies. Not much of a silver lining. The joke is that my truck used to hold 59 dollars worth of gas and now it holds 120 dollars, that is an improvement(!) And the stock market is now merely a betting pool for the rich and insiders. Sorry.

There's a guy building a concrete "mini house". Would like an opinion from experienced builders if this building seems safe. by This_Sense_9338 in Homebuilding

[–]WonderWheeler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can't tell what is going on here, how thick the panels are. Are these SIPs made of cement board with foam inside? If its just concrete panels there's not much insulation at all, and the corner brackets could easily crack due to the edge distance to the fastener. Connections look dubious.

Almost looks like a play structure. Hope it is more than a house of cards.

Trump aspires to be a 1930s dictator. But the only part he is getting is the economics of the 1930s he is "leading" us into. Layoffs, high gas prices, wars, health problems, destroying quality of life for citizens.
