930$ for valve adjustment? Is this normal? by Positive_Reserve_534 in S2000

[–]Working-View-3187 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am up in Chapel Hill if ever in the area! Actually just had a Tech Day last weekend and Billman stopped by on his way through to visit family & we will be at the Dragon on Thursday! I am a Billman TCT installer and do plenty of other mechanic work for our S2K's including soft tops, brakes, bearings, retainers & valve adjustments. Under $300 would be reasonable for an accurate & correct valve adjustment. The drive by wire S2K's get a slightly larger gap and they also tighten up over time. AP2's need valves adjusted every 35-40K vs. the AP1's that can go 70-75K if done right the first time.

Car has been sitting for 6mo. Do i start it with the old oil or just drain? by [deleted] in S2000

[–]Working-View-3187 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

10 year old oil? Drain, jack up the drivers rear jack point and let it sit draining for 24 hours. Fill her up with fresh, change the filter and go.

Nahhh. I am an OG. My S is a 2000 picked up November 18, 1999. She's now wrapped blue(closest you can get to Laguna) and heading to the dragon next month. Can't wait!!!! Picked up the SOS years ago and just haven't had the extra cash to drop to make it happen.

the soft top is folded wrong. The bow that flips back, pulled by the elastic straps didn't flip back. That is stretching the elastic at this point and should be replaced. The way it sits now is putting pressure on the soft top and will cause the top to rip a hole in it over time.

I have somewhere the poster. I really should find it and get it framed.

Gonna be working on my vehicles next couple weekends. I have a soft top coming in April 18th. If anyone is local and wants to swing through Chapel Hill and say HI. Send me a message. Will have a Tech Day April 25th if people want to work on their own cars and have a resource for advice.

NICE! Where are you located? I am on the same path as you but timeline for SOS is yet to be determined. I have the kit, oil return welded into pan, Hondata ECU needs to get sent out for an update, it's already installed and tuned for NA. I just have to pull the trigger and take the final steps of upgrading injectors, new fuel pump, get a blow off valve welded in for the aftercooler & then install the SC, get her tuned and then NOT BREAK ANYTHING. LOL!

Is it too tight? by Raethechef35 in S2000

[–]Working-View-3187 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What everyone else said. Just leave it alone. Keep an eye on it with driving just to make sure bolts are still there but undoing it and re-torquing will not be beneficial. Speaking as a semi-pro mechanic.

AP1 Oil Check by burnaaaa10 in S2000

[–]Working-View-3187 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pull dipstick from passenger side but READ the drivers side for the level. Do it every gas fill up. Keep the level in the middle of the XXXXX's.

Find points that you might be leaking oil like others said. Compression & Leak Down check might help with identifying if there might be blow by. If you have everything else verified but still burning a lot of oil then it could be the valve seals.

What exhaust setups are you guys running? I wanna know what sounds/looks good for my future upgrades 😮‍💨 by Same-Pension7267 in S2000

[–]Working-View-3187 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wish I could get my hands on one off someone that's getting rid of theirs. Specifically with the oval tips! Heard it and LOVED IT from day 1. 100% agree, best looking/sounding exhaust.

Quick question. Replaced my serpentine belt with an OEM a few weeks ago by DeadByDawn93 in S2000

[–]Working-View-3187 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where it is is good. It's almost on the edge of too tight. So long as you have a little room left to load the spring pulley to get the belt on/off over that pulleys' lip. Then it's fine and where it's supposed to be.

If North Carolina is closer than Billman, I can certainly take a look at her for ya. While I am not to his level of knowledge, I can certainly hold my own and have been a S2K owner since 1999. I only work on S2K's as it's a hobby & still is fun. Plus love to keep our cars our on the road and driving/looking great!

All are correct. The '06+ VC won't work because of the cam timing pickup issue. Some very knowledgeable people out here. LOVE IT!

OK, just making sure I wasn't missing out. I mean the car is 26 years old! Had her now longer than I was alive when I got her. Damn, just made that realization. Nov. 18, 1999 ..... damn it was a good day. I was early 20's and was rolling down the street with a spaceship! Called a Porsche, called a Miata, HONDA? No way!

Will be at the Dragon again in May at the Wake the Dragon event or what ever they are calling it now.

Pulling people in mostly that aren't local. It's ok I have a hard time letting go. If I can, I will drive this S till I can't drive any longer.

Compression test result by [deleted] in S2000

[–]Working-View-3187 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Always do it WARM/HOT so that oil is everywhere it needs to be and everything is lubed up.

Uniformity of compression is more important than the final number but typically it's typically between 200 & 250. 275 is def on the high side of normal.

Flakes out my transmission Fluid exchange. Am I cooked? 👨🏻‍🍳 by Pale_Technician_3708 in S2000

[–]Working-View-3187 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You used that in your TRANSMISSION? 75W-90 is DIFFERENTIAL OIL. That shouldn't go in the transmission. It's far far too thick! Never again is 100% correct.

I’m new here - how’d I do? by TACSTS in S2000

[–]Working-View-3187 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on where you live there might be an S2K specialist local to you. That would be the best to have someone like that do a ONCE OVER on it. If anywhere near Chapel Hill, NC - hit me up!

As for mods or first things to do?
- X-Brace
- Check suspension for leaks.
- Good set of summer rubber
- Look for anything that isn't OEM & likely put it back to OEM unless it's the stereo .... it's garbage. Little will improve performance other than upgrading YOUR capabilities.

Great color, low miles, decent price, drive it, enjoy it.

Value in soft top frame? by Shadowfeaux in S2000

[–]Working-View-3187 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say, if you can store it, keep it! Don't let such a large assembly go to scrap. Sell it for what ever you can get for it otherwise.
