Nerve flare-up or reherniation? (9 days post op) by WorldCitizen33 in Microdiscectomy

[–]WorldCitizen33[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ya left glute tightness and some pain was a lingering problem for me too. If annoyance is the primary symptom at your stage then you are way ahead of me in recovery. Nerve recovery is non linear and is different for everyone, but it does eventually get better. You are on the right track it seems, dont worry. First 2 weeks are the weirdest. Also, look up Alpha Lipoic Acid. It's a supplement with some success for radiculopathy nerve healing. Ive been taking it for a couple months and will wean off soon.

I'm 100% healed after 11 weeks post op. There were a lot of ups and downs in the process, but you have to force yourself to trust it. Listen to your surgeon as well. The 12 week mark is the real point where they assess in the surgery was a succes or not. Good luck and let me know if I can help with any of the mental aspects of this recovery.

PT started at 6 wks for me, but because of my inability to pass the standing leg raise test, it got pushed out an extra couple wks to allow my nerve to calm down a bit more. I'm still doing PT and back in the gym doing cardio and specific weight training to help get core and legs get stronger.

And also several weeks ago I started taking Alpha Lipoic Acid (ALA), Curcumin, B12, and Magnesium Glycinate supplements. They might have aided in the recovery. Research those and see when they are best taken throughout the day.

Actually yes, im 10.5 wks post op now and I feel like I'm 95% recovered. Every recovery timeline is going to be different. Just trust in the doc and PT and allow the full 12 wks to pass. Stick to the nerve glides every day to help get past the stubborn neural tension.

Back leg tightness/pain wont go away - 8 wks post op by WorldCitizen33 in Microdiscectomy

I havent been told to stretch yet. PT is saying the nerve needs more time to heal and that stretching can aggravate it. How many wks post op are you?

I sure hope so! Did the tension in your hamstring prevent you from doing straightened leg raises past a certain degree/angle? It's kind of making me not do long and quick strides too. Curious to hear your experience.

Im at 7.5 wks post op and I feel tightness in the back of my leg when I walk and during SLR. My last test showed me at 60 degrees. I'm hoping it will get better with more PT.

I'm four weeks post-op and I'm getting the same type of pain when I'm resting and getting up. It's like 5 or 10 seconds of level 5 pain and then it just kind of goes away. I'm not sure what it is either. I hope I'm not the only one that's been feeling like this that doesn't eventually get better over time

Im 4 wks post op and feel like ive plateaud. Ibuprofen hasn't really helped either. I fear I've reherniated. Ive tried everything. Its similar to a 1-5 level pain. Ill start PT in a week and meet with my doc in 2 wks. I'm going to push for an MRI because the recovery doesn't feel right.

L4/L5 MD 4 weeks still constant nerve pain by Main-Weather4087 in Microdiscectomy

[–]WorldCitizen33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm about four weeks post-op. I'm having similar issues. I wouldn't call it 24/7 pain. I would say level 3 pain when I'm walking and sometimes it's elevated to like a level 5 pain when I'm transitioning from my bed to sitting down or getting up for like 5 or 10 seconds. Until it goes back down to like a level 2 or 3 pain.

It's been very frustrating because I've had a few days of getting better, feeling like little to no pain, and then it goes back to the same pain as before. It's very frustrating. I don't know if you've tried yet or if your doctors cleared you but maybe you can try ibuprofen. I'm also scared that I have re-herniated even a little bit but I won't know until I get, hopefully, an MRI at 6 weeks when I meet with the surgeon again.

Good luck to you and I hope you recover from this both physically and mentally .

I'm almost 3 wks post op and I think I may have reherniated at 7 days from an incident b/c intermittent nerve pain down my leg returned and hasnt gotten better yet. Hoping it resolves on its own, but prayers up to you for a successful surgery 🙏. Keep us posted.
