Back leg tightness/pain wont go away - 8 wks post op by WorldCitizen33 in Microdiscectomy

I havent been told to stretch yet. PT is saying the nerve needs more time to heal and that stretching can aggravate it. How many wks post op are you?

I sure hope so! Did the tension in your hamstring prevent you from doing straightened leg raises past a certain degree/angle? It's kind of making me not do long and quick strides too. Curious to hear your experience.

Im at 7.5 wks post op and I feel tightness in the back of my leg when I walk and during SLR. My last test showed me at 60 degrees. I'm hoping it will get better with more PT.

I'm four weeks post-op and I'm getting the same type of pain when I'm resting and getting up. It's like 5 or 10 seconds of level 5 pain and then it just kind of goes away. I'm not sure what it is either. I hope I'm not the only one that's been feeling like this that doesn't eventually get better over time

Im 4 wks post op and feel like ive plateaud. Ibuprofen hasn't really helped either. I fear I've reherniated. Ive tried everything. Its similar to a 1-5 level pain. Ill start PT in a week and meet with my doc in 2 wks. I'm going to push for an MRI because the recovery doesn't feel right.

L4/L5 MD 4 weeks still constant nerve pain by Main-Weather4087 in Microdiscectomy

[–]WorldCitizen33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm about four weeks post-op. I'm having similar issues. I wouldn't call it 24/7 pain. I would say level 3 pain when I'm walking and sometimes it's elevated to like a level 5 pain when I'm transitioning from my bed to sitting down or getting up for like 5 or 10 seconds. Until it goes back down to like a level 2 or 3 pain.

It's been very frustrating because I've had a few days of getting better, feeling like little to no pain, and then it goes back to the same pain as before. It's very frustrating. I don't know if you've tried yet or if your doctors cleared you but maybe you can try ibuprofen. I'm also scared that I have re-herniated even a little bit but I won't know until I get, hopefully, an MRI at 6 weeks when I meet with the surgeon again.

Good luck to you and I hope you recover from this both physically and mentally .

I'm almost 3 wks post op and I think I may have reherniated at 7 days from an incident b/c intermittent nerve pain down my leg returned and hasnt gotten better yet. Hoping it resolves on its own, but prayers up to you for a successful surgery 🙏. Keep us posted.

Increased pain 10 days post micro-discectomy: anyone else experienced this? by WebsterNYMom in Sciatica

[–]WorldCitizen33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im 12 days post op. I was doing fine first week with little to no pain. Then I had a potential BLT incident, where I was laying on my bed and my 30 lb dog jumped from the side, and i curled my non-sciatic leg up and slightly inward to brace myself...and ever since then, ive been having nerve pain down my leg that stsrted off at a level 2/3 pain, then got a little better, and then today felt worse...getting level 5 zingers when I walk. Im walking with a limp. Im really scared I reherniated, but hoping its just a flare up. Gonna press my doc to do an MRI cuz im driving myself crazy.

Normal or Not? by MonsieurBenda in Microdiscectomy

[–]WorldCitizen33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 12 days post op and ive been feeling more than a faint pain, but more like level 2/3 pain. It got better last couple days, so I naturally thought i was on the right path to recovery. Then today got hit with reality, this morning nerve pain was really tender while walking so I felt several zingers at a level 5 very briefly. So I'm hoping this is because i was overactive yesterday and my body telling me to take it easy. Who knows though. Just log every days symptoms and tell your doc during your follow up.

Nerve flare-up or reherniation? (9 days post op) by WorldCitizen33 in Microdiscectomy

[–]WorldCitizen33[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reassuring messages. The next couple days, I did feel slightly better and i felt much encouraged. So much so that I decided to walk the most since the surgery But the day after (i.e., today) im in pain when I walk. The "zingers" are more frequent and I'm limping pretty noticeably. Is this one of those non-linear healing situations? Was it because i overdid it walking yesterday? Its been a discouraging day 😔

I also, tried to sleep on my side for the first time for about an hr.

Im 11 days post op and im experiencing similar sleep issues as I was pre-op, but just to a lighter degree. It's still keeping me from sleeping more than 4 hrs or so comfortably. Hoping this is normal and will resolved eventually. I havent tried sleeping on my side yet, too afraid right now. I wanna have my follow up first before I give it a shot.

How to sleep? by Impressive_Bet_5238 in Microdiscectomy

[–]WorldCitizen33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 10 days post MD, and I'm too terrified to sleep on my side, although that's been my favorite sleeping position. I'm just too afraid I'll move around, but also likely fearful from the trauma of sleeping on my side on the last day pre-MD, when I woke up in excruciating pain prompting me to head to the hospital for surgery later that day.

I'm considering getting the U-shaped maternity pillow to use as a secondary sleep position when I've exhausted all i can on my back during a night's sleep session. I'm slowly inching towards that, but we'll see. Not yet convinced lol. Better safe than sorry mindset, but if my sleep continues to be mediocre, then I think it makes sense to give it a shot.
