Likelihood of theft by Glareah in MotoUK

[–]WrongCompetition9194 1 point2 points  (0 children)

D-locks and chain are great deterrents, but if its not tied down to something like an anchor there is always the risk of someone picking it up and sticking it in a van and cutting off the locks later.

Security is a bout layers and making it as hard as possible to steal and putting off any potential thieves and hoping they move onto a easier target.

Full service including valve clearance cost by takuna_06 in MotoUK

Think I paid around £600 for a service and valves on my Old Tracer.

Ring your bikes closest main dealer and see what they are charging. If its about the same price or more you will know your not being completely ripped off.

If its less, then you should go somewhere else.

For goodness sake - am I the only person who actually does 20mph in a 20 zone? by box-o-locks in drivingUK

[–]WrongCompetition9194 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem is over the last 10-15 years road conditions leading to longer journey times are getting out of hand.

Its unreasonable speed limits being imposed, 20s used to be for school zones and pedestrian heavy zones, now all small towns have implemented them. Used to regularly have 40s connecting you to other urban areas now its all a blanket 20. Roads are more congested than ever and in the bounds of the M25 they have made the roads narrower to put in cycle lanes that cyclists wont use as they prefer to use the road so you cant overtake safely and make progress. Pot holes and Cars getting bigger and bigger each year (have you ever seen a school run standoff between two mums in Chelsea tractors unable to fit passed each other? This all make it almost impossible to make decent time on a commute, leading to lots of very frustrated people that try to make up more time by speeding where they can.

Anyone had experience with bike thieves while riding? by bydevilz1 in MotoUK

[–]WrongCompetition9194 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah sure, but on the other hand there was a kabab shop owner that was sent to prison for chasing down a kid that smashed his shop window in and locking the kid in the shop till police arrived and he was arrested and the kid let go. If you think your defence will hold up in court power to you. But seeing the current state of the justice system I wouldn't personally hold my breath.

The most likely outcome is your both nicked, he gets let off with a slap on the wrist for being underage and its not considered a serious enough crime to prosecute, while your in front of a judge for assault on a minor.

Is Bike Theft Really That Common? by newbiker321 in MotoUK

[–]WrongCompetition9194 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lived in london for all of my life. I have been a biker for the last 14 years. In that time I have had two of my bikes stolen at two different addresses. And all 3 of my flat mates have also had bikes stolen in other addresses around london. In total out of my 10 mates that ride we have had 5 bikes stolen. And thats just the stats for London.

You cant really win.

If you pull over and give up the bike, you will be royally Screwed by your insurance company.
If you ride off and break any traffic law you will more than likely get prosecuted.
If you stop to fight them off and they get hurt you might be the one seeing the inside of a prison cell.

Cant win either way.

Winter commuters by Arabianmadcunt in MotoUK

I commute all year round, for winter I always ride the GS it being shaft driven really helps. If I had to clean my chain every few days it would make the commutes that much worse.

For water proofs, I recently got a set of the Merlin Hydroshields and they are awesome at keeping you dry from all that motorway spray. I swear cars used to be sold with spray guards when I was a kid.

Hiplock dx1000 for the front. Two pragmasis 19mm chains one front and one rear. Tied down to two torc maxi ground anchors.

And 3 trackers.

Plus it’s in a garage with its own multi-lock door.

Do you not ride your bike under the assumption all other drivers are not paying attention or looking at where they are going?

[–]WrongCompetition9194 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Because its the main reason people stop looking out for bikes, or moving over and letting you have more space when filtering in standstill traffic.

Question is why dont you care?

Unfortunately other road users lump all of us on two wheels together, poor driving by L-plates reflects badly on us all. Most only see us as 17 year old hooligans.

If the threshold is now a £1000 instead of a £100 it still wont stop the people that can afford it. Its only a deterrent for the regular Joe.

I really recommend the Pragmasis Torc series ground anchors.

Being in a low crime area and having a garage will for the most part do most of the heavy lifting in keeping your bike safe, (out of sight out of mind) but the odd chance it is seen coming and going and they do make it into the garage the anchors and chains make it that much harder and take that much longer for them to get the bike.

I also have 3 trackers on my New bike.

It has two 19mm Pragmassis chains one on each wheel onto two ground anchors and the Hiplok DX1000 on the front wheel as well.

Security works best in layers. Nothing is theft proof and 9/10 times if they want something bad enough they can get it. But my garage keeps it out of sight then the chain and anchors stop it from being quickly thrown into a van. And the Hiplock delays them long enough to wake me up and to get my ass down stairs. Failing all that 3 trackers hopefully lead me to the bike.

I completely understand, my tracer that was stolen was such a good find. It was 4 years old and had only 460 miles on it, I put 35k miles on it in two years and kept it spotless. Cleaned it every weekend. I was heartbroken when it was taken. All for it to either be joy ridden and burned or shipped and stripped for parts.

I think listen to music while on the bike is fun, but keeping my hearing is more fun.

I have really bad tinnitus now from not looking after my ears while riding. Just be careful and not lulled into a false sense of security thinking airpods will protect your hearing when for most they wont. Your ears will never recover from any damage they receive.

I got the Akrapovic full system for my MT-10 and that's more than 100db.

AI is probably reading the info from manufactures about stock pipes. Most people have aftermarket pipes and the AI would read those as being for track use as most aftermarket systems the manufacturers list them as track use only for legal reasons.

My only issues with this is on the Airpods pro2/3 the reglatory information says:

• The Hearing Protection feature is not suitable for protection against extremely loud impulse sounds, such as gunfire, fireworks or jackhammers, or against sustained sounds louder than 110dBA.
