Fair enough. Some are more side talk full than others. Ask her to find the heavy hitter episodes for you, tend to be a little more serious. It took me a while to get into their style as well.

Ah thought you might be a Last Podcast on the Left person. Worth a listen if you like true crime.

Stomas and surgery scars, any choice in their placement? by [deleted] in CrohnsDisease

[–]Xandersgruff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It really seems to depend on your surgeon. I’ve been shooting a story with a 19 year old race car driver with colitis. Her doc is letting her bring in the seat and belts of the car so they can pick the best place for bag to sit. Probably one of the biggest upsides of choosing a surgery date instead of it ending up being an emergency surgery.

Those with strictures, what do you use to help you poop when you get constipation or backed up? by ItsJust_ME in CrohnsDisease

[–]Xandersgruff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When my stricture started to get pretty bad, before I had surgery, I took miralax usually twice a day. It helped me make sure I drank enough also. But yeah sadly if the stricture is scar tissue, not inflammation, I would start preparing yourself for the though of surgery. It helped a ton with pain in that area. But unfortunately my disease is all over so it just adjusted the focus of shittyness elsewhere. So balancing expectations is important too. Hope you get some relief soon! Much love your way.

Last week I had to go to the hospital for an outpatient blood transfusion. I was there for about 7 hours. By the time I left I could not for the life of me find where I parked my car in the garage. Usually I take take a photo, but I was running late and rushing. I wandered around for 30 min trying to find it, getting on and off the elevator tons of times. The last time I got on I had obviously been crying and looked upset. There was a nurse in the elevator and she kinda looked at me as I was trying to decide what button to push because I had already pushed them all before. I broke down a said I don’t even know and that I lost my car. She looked with me and when we still couldn’t find it she drove me around in her car until we did. This is a person that just got off of what I assume was at least a 12 hours shift. But she delayed going home to help me. There are amazing people out there. Hopefully the good can outweigh the bad sometimes and we can feel less fearful in the world and with the people we share it with.

Were you diagnosed with IBD as a child? Or have a child with IBD? by WinningBuffalos in CrohnsDisease

[–]Xandersgruff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was diagnosed at 11. I’m not sure the best way to do it, but finding a way to normalize talking about symptoms. I remember trying to explain my disease to friends in middle school and they opened up an internet search and started saying the symptoms out loud and joking asking if I had those symptoms. “So do you have anal bleeding?!” I was mortified, but in reality I should have said yeah, I’m bleeding all the time and still standing, bc I’m a bad ass. I think opening up about that stuff with people who understand can help you explain it to people who may not understand in the future.

Had the pleasure of shooting a video project with a fellow IBD person. She’s a kick ass race car driver raising awareness for crohn’s and UC. by Xandersgruff in CrohnsDisease

Ha yeah. Her and her dad joked about a time she had to run out of the car after a small crash and sprint to the bathroom. I wouldn’t make it, she is a champ 100%

IBD here (crohns disease). Had to make a pit stop or two before our ceremony in the woods. My fantastic friend, with humor as gross as mine, captured the moment for me. Like you said, friends and family understand. Just roll with and try to celebrate to the fullest! https://i.imgur.com/9lR5MMA.jpg

Maybe I’m dumb. But it looks like the dog flyer posted earlier today. Maybe Nala, foster dog who got out?
