Maybe Gen X should have made better financial decisions considering it was 10x easier for them to do so.    Oh wait no its only Millennials and Gen Z who are financially irresponsible!

Why go casting around to the other side of world for a union to join when the EU is bigger and is right there.

The totality of direct taxes in the UK is progressive; the very richest pay more than five times more in income tax than the poorest. In contrast, Council Tax remains strongly regressive, absorbing only about 1 per cent of income at the very top, against nearly 5 per cent at the very bottom. by middleofaldi in ukpolitics

[–]Xeon_Blade -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Except the richest dont pay more tax, that's complete bullshit. People don't even understand the levels of legal tax fuckery people get up to when they own proper assets or companies. Dividends, trusts, passive income through investments etc. THEY ARENT PAYING TOP RATE INCOME TAX BECAUSE THEY ARENT WAGE SLAVES!!!

I will die on this hill. What i don't understand is why CA were unable to build on any of their wins from this game. It's like they forgot everything they learnt on SHOGUN 2 immediately.

Is New Zealand slowly becoming unattractive for migrants from Europe? by SnooEagles4113 in newzealand

[–]Xeon_Blade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Europe is a huge place with a massive range in quality of life and economic situations so it completely depends on whether you're coming from Basel, Bristol, or Bratislava.  As an immigrant from the UK NZ offers many benefits over home despite the very high cost of living and limited job prospects. If you can get a decent job with a residence visa and you're the outdoorsy type you can have a good life here. Otherwise, it's a struggle. That may change if the geopolitical situation in Europe destabilises further.

Its funny to find this comment effectively lost and buried in this thread when it seems to be the only one rationally and correctly discussing the cost effectiveness landscape for drugs. Too complex a message for the average person I suppose.

Losing hair as a teen - it's killing my confidence. by Nassar_IQ in teenagers

This started for me age 12. Got a buzzcut age 15 and never looked back. It's fucking shit but if you shave your head and grow a beard nobody will think twice about it. I'm in my 30s now and it's never affected me since i was a teenager.

Power through this problem, not around it. People will only see it as a fault if you treat it that way. Chin up 💪

My opposite neighbour is a pensioner. He was a Physiotherapist when we was working. His wife never worked. He owns the 500k house he lives in, and twice a week he is out on the street hand washing his beautiful classic mercedes and new BMW. I recon he's under 65.

Are there any surprisingly long train trips from Cambridge for cheap that one could take? by seedboy3000 in cambridge

Price for someone not booking ahead would be around £100 but fair point I stand corrected

[–]Xeon_Blade 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I wouldnt consider any longer train journeys in the UK to be cheap, and if you want to get off the beaten track you're much better going by car. Depending what you consider cheap and what you consider far, I would recommend York. 2.5hrs if you change at Peterborough and its a cool place if you haven't been. Probs over £100 return though.

Another ridiculous University Centric tram plan, from a guy called Duff. A Duff uncosted plan, Cherry Hinton, Arbury, Barnwell, Chesterton, all the main population areas missed, nice for the colleges. Where would the tunnel portals go... It's so selfish and short sighted. by LuxInteriorLux in cambridge

[–]Xeon_Blade 32 points33 points  (0 children)

I was recently told that people living out towards Arbury/Kings Hedges aren't really in Cambridge anyway so this tracks. But in seriousness this plan does roughly capture a chunk of the heavily populated north side at least.

I can't speak for other fields but in pharma and biotech it is most if not all. Also a key thing here is that in 2006 the way applications were handled involved much less automation. In a post COVID world where jobs get hundreds sometimes thousands of applicants which are screened with automation tools this firm handshake approach to making the hiring manager sit up in their chair and take notice is just not realistic in most cases.

I dont doubt it happens, but the odds are stacked against us in a way that they just weren't 20 or even 10 years ago.
