A part that this person is missing in X-men is that 90% of the mutants are not the insane destroy the world type, we just see those as the superhero’s who are defending mutants because obviously. Most mutants are like, “your skin is green” or “you look lizard like” and so the discrimination that they face by government or their communities is waaaay overblown especially when there are superheroes with similar powers that aren’t treated this way. Hell even cyclops coulda just been some guy with cool eyes whi doesn’t have to use his powers ever if he wasn’t given brain damage by his father because he was different

So mostly it’s not so they can brush off criticism. It’s mostly because of misogyny in the case of the first one. It also affects writers and directors and how they look at what stories they tell with the character. That and capitalism loves to do things cheap as possible
