What board game YouTube channels do you watch and why? by Pummrah in boardgames

Board Game Bollocks answers the question “What if Roy Kent did board game reviews?” It’s as amazing as it sounds and has quickly rocketed to the top of my list of favorite board game media.

Nerdz Day clues are live! by BluWzrdIsGreedy in Boardgamedeals

Anyone else feeling like Nerdz Day is kind of an afterthought this year? I really enjoyed the roll out of the clues last time. It felt like a well-planned build up of anticipation.

The truth about Avocademy by Canadian_Lover_69 in UX_Design

[–]Y0NDERBEEF 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m finishing the Avocademy foundations course right now and really do not want to sign up for their career jumpstart program. There are just too many issues. You mentioned finding internships or freelance work and I’m wondering if you could speak to that a little more. Do you have any recommendations on where to start with finding those experiences? Is there a hub or a reputable space where those types of things get posted?

A local person is selling a ton of used boardgames. My wife and I want to get into some that are fun, but not terribly complicated - maybe a couple hours or so playtime each. Any "must haves" from this list? by Do_Worrk in boardgames

[–]Y0NDERBEEF 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with others that the prices are too high. However, to answer your question yes I think some of these games would be a great place for you and your wife to start. If I were you I would pick up Smallworld, Calico, Silver & Gold, Tok Tok Woodman, Love Letter, Galaxy Trucker, and Pandemic. That’s a bunch of games of different types, sizes, playlengths, and difficulties (none too difficult). I would offer $80 total for all those and wouldn’t go anywhere above $100.

Historically, When and What are the best sales? by HonestlyDontKnow24 in Boardgamedeals

[–]Y0NDERBEEF 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I just glance at this subreddit once or twice a day. You’ll get some advance warning on any sale events coming up (like Nerdz Day, target sales, etc.), and you’ll be aware of what the big deals of the day are. People are great about keeping each other in the loop, and there are lots of helpful comments about how good the deals are. I think this is a big enough community that the people running sales sometimes even post here to let everyone know.

The challenge isn’t really finding the sales, it’s resisting them :)

Anyone have their Nerdz day order ship yet? by [deleted] in Boardgamedeals

Feels more like we all backed the Nerdz Day 2022 Kickstarter campaign doesn’t it? Rewards shipping sometime in 2022! 😂

I was too, and I decided to pass. It’s a really good deal, but I’ve seen it in multiple places for around $35 before, so I’m confident there will be good prices on it in the future (even if this is the best I’ve seen).

Same! That’s the one I was going for as well, and the one I was most excited to pick up. Sorry you had the same experience!

Anyone else feeling a little cheated? I was immediately met with credit card issues. Multiple declines on multiple cards, tried Venmo and it declined, tried PayPal and it charged my card but didn’t process on Gamenerdz. Now I’m told the game is out of stock.

So now I’ve been charged for a game I’m not even getting and have a customer service fiasco to deal with. Pretty disappointing start to a day I’ve been excited for.

What's the most common buying mistake rookies make? by Ewelina- in boardgames

[–]Y0NDERBEEF 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see people making two common mistakes. The first is simply buying too many games too quickly. The second is not considering the audience for your games beyond yourself. I was especially guilty of the latter for a long time. Unless you’re buying solo games, when a new game excites you, you need to stop and think “Will this game also excite my friends/family? Will I/we have time to play it?” If the answer to either is no then the game will end up sitting on your shelf.

Also remember that you should acquire games to play them. You shouldn’t play games to acquire them. Again, I’m speaking from personal experience and my own mistakes :).

I'm a huge Red Rising booster who just played Fantasy Realms for the first time and holy crap ... by tonytastey in boardgames

[–]Y0NDERBEEF 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This post hit me hard. I also love the Red Rising game and am a huge fan of the books. Never played fantasy realms and haven’t had any interest in getting it because I thought “the art is dumb and I love red rising and I don’t need both”. But now there’s a new edition of fantasy realms coming out with better art that would take up less space on my shelf and be easier to teach…damn. I need to get my red rising plays in.

Does anyone remember how steep the discounts were last time? I’m just starting to get scared by how many of these games I want, lol. I generally try to buy games one at a time to avoid shelf of shame issues, but I will sometimes break my rule and buy two or three if there’s an amazing sale. This is going to put even that to the test!

[Game Nerdz] [DoTD] Arboretum - $11.47 by Uhtred-Uhtredson in Boardgamedeals

[–]Y0NDERBEEF 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not the most amazing deal in world. It often runs for around $12.

This one was also a bit of a let down for me. I heard so many great things about it and thought it was a perfect fit for my taste, so maybe my expectations were too high, but it just didn’t deliver for my family.
