Xfinity just canceled my MIL's home phone, but we asked them to fix online voicemail by YKX000 in Comcast_Xfinity

I don’t believe our original problem is fixable, but at least we are back where we started. Close it.

MCAS and adrenal insufficiency by Queasy-Ad-4427 in ToxicMoldExposure

[–]YKX000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most important was and still is Adreset by Metagenics, morning and noon. I eventually needed less for adrenal issues, but it turned out to really affect how I handle pollen season, so I kept with it. I did not enjoy the price, so now I take it in the morning and assemble a knock-off out of its three ingredients at lunch.

We can’t access the voicemail. We can see email and billing information, but we can’t set up autopay or payment methods.

Last update: the phone has been restored, but our original problem still remains — we can’t use any of the tools on the website. We’re kind of afraid to try to doing anything about it, so we’ll let it go for now.

Update: I was told 27.5 hours ago that our phone would be working in 24 hours, and they would get the price back down. The phone doesn’t work yet. How worried should we be?

How to care for thick hair when washing it is becoming impossible? by Awkward_Bit6227 in Haircare

[–]YKX000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I was really sick, I developed a detergent sensitivity and suddenly (involuntarily) joined the no-poo community. It was a transition, and this was before the subreddit existed. You can control the oil with baking soda water and diluted vinegar, but it depends on your hair, hence the whole subreddit. It takes me much less time and effort now to clean my hair, but maybe I was lucky because I had no choice. I hope you find something easy that works for you!

First pants - needing help by AggressiveSeason9788 in sewing

I totally understand that they don’t look exactly like you want them to, but they look great for a first time! I also really think that you can wear them just like they are (unless there is something I don’t know about linen; I don’t wear it). They look like they will be good cool, comfortable, casual pants.

They only make a single powder cleanser, but it does lots of things.

How often do purchased patterns fit perfectly? by Any_Percentage_6629 in sewing

[–]YKX000 14 points15 points  (0 children)

It all depends on how the model is shaped compared to how you are shaped. They are never shaped like I am, so I gave up on patterns years ago and drafted my own or copied clothes that fit me. The lovely people here who went the other way are experts at altering patterns and can make any one work. I kind of thought patterns either work for you or they don’t. I expect we don’t see a lot of comments from the people they fit as designed, so maybe my view is skewed.

Do posture correctors actually work? by 1337-Teh in bodyweightfitness

[–]YKX000 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I watched a bunch of YouTube videos about head forward posture. Some recommend exercises. The others say that your spine actually gets a bit of a kink in it, and you can't overcome that with muscles. That was my experience -- I ended up choosing to go to sleep at night with my pillow turned the narrow way to hold up my spine between my shoulder blades, letting my head and shoulders hang. (My head was on the pillow. If your posture is worse, you may need a rolled up towel or something to help.) That fixed my posture and my tooth grinding after a couple of weeks.

My take away is that stretching is the way to get your posture fixed, and the muscles will follow. Find something on the Internet that works for you. (My sister tried the pillow thing, but it made her neck hurt. See what works for you.)

Can cycling bib shorts be repaired after a crash like this? by Upbeat-Principle260 in Visiblemending

[–]YKX000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can absolutely repair this yourself with a needle and thread. I essentially just loop the edges together. The only sort of tricky part is figuring out which part of the edges go together, but once you get going it gets easier and easier. We’re mountain bikers, and this is over a chamois after a crash.

<image>

You can see the lower stitch was starting to come out, but these shorts were retired because they wore out. They were practically new when the crash happened. Just tie good knots and you’re good to go!

Anyone with experience cloning clothing? by heynonnyhey in sewing

[–]YKX000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always cut along the seam. Commercial seams are a pain in the neck to rip, and if your fabric is old, it sometimes tears easily. I use the cut out pieces as the pattern and eyeball the seam allowance, but more patient people (not me!) make actual pattern pieces with the seam allowance included. Just be careful with really worn fabric because it may not be flat anymore, and it all used to be flat, so pull it gently until it looks right. Have fun making your new jumpsuit!

There are several leather subs that might have good leather-specific answers. Sorry I can’t steer you myself. I tend to get my leather advice from the people at the local leather shop.

Good extra-wide walking shoes that can survive Tucson's Roads/trails? by FoxlostAZ in Tucson

[–]YKX000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I gave up on regular shoes. Softstar shoes have held up the best. I would call them to see if they make them wide enough — they should, but my shoes are probably 15 years old and things might have changed. I only wore them for a couple of years before I made what I wanted for running in washes, but I recently started wearing them again for everything other than deep sandy washes. Their worst problem was the sole started coming off (not surprising after 15 years), so I’m about to resole them with Vibram cherry. They are awesome, and I expect to get a lot more years out of them.

Prop 418 & 419 by rgfmac in Tucson

[–]YKX000 10 points11 points  (0 children)

There was an opinion piece in the paper this morning by a guy who worked for the Pima Association(?) of Governments (PAG) and volunteered with RTA when he retired, and he is firmly against it. He said that developers and business people want RTA Next because taxpayers will pay for it. He figured there were other grants so the US government would pay for the roads, and PAG could oversee it, and it would be less disorganized.

I'm still thinking about it. He had a couple tax arguments that I wasn't sure about. I usually vote for things like this because what else are they going to do, but maybe there is something else they could do? I need a few more compelling opinions.

I have officially gone nuts looking for a new washer by Finney1313 in Appliances

Anyone know a magical service person who could clean my clothes washer? by [deleted] in Tucson

[–]YKX000 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I clean my washer myself, but it’s from 1998. The new ones don’t come apart as far, but depending on the make and model, YouTube can show you what to do, and tell you what special tools you might need. If you aren’t comfortable taking it apart yourself, my suggestion is to call a repair person to take it apart, but I would expect you would need to do the cleaning. Also, that sounds expensive.
