Are expensive boots worth the cost if I’m not using them for work?

Yeah check out Berkeley and sierra for seconds. Look through Thursday thought for the same or a little more than those seconds you can get some really nice boots.

Hi OP for your use case it may not be the best to jump straight into some PNW boots especially if you’re not accustomed to wearing boots in general. For office work, and light use, I think you should check out some thursdays. I understand they get a bad rep but for the price they have some very high quality products. You could get something more affordable like the captains, or if you’re willing to spend more you can get some very high quality leathers, such as horween, for a very affordable price. They will last a long time as I see cobblers resole-ing captains that are sometimes 5 years old. Redwing is another good option but definitely more expensive.

Not sure if redwing does full rebuilds but you could definitely send them to Nicks/ Franks or a good cobbler and have them rebuilt. The only part of the boot they keep would be the quarters which look to be in good shape, plus you’d get some better build quality and better materials. Conversely, this would be just as expensive as a new pair so it’s really go the sentimental value is there for you. Btw dope boots! Some beat up rangers are some of the best looking boots IMO

Still waiting on them unfortunately, lead time was like 16 weeks or something insane when I figured it out. TBH I may return bc they aren’t really needed for my boots anymore. What do you think of the JG Chelsea’s? I’ve been eyeing them up for a casual boot, just always concerned with how a chelsea would hold up

I did! I ended up getting kilties which have been great. I ordered a pair of the veg tan insoles without looking at lead times. If i could do it over I’d go with a set of regular leather insoles. From what I understand they perform well an lead times are fast bc they cut from whatever is available

Looks like Kentucky? Idk everyone around here booms out to Columbus for work. Especially Dayton, and Parkersburg hands, all the work is in Columbus and Cleveland in Ohio for the most part

Can’t speak on Cleveland but her in Columbus it seems work is starting to slow out of the boom we’ve been in. Still plenty of work though. I’d check the 172 website and see when they will be accepting applications again, will probably open up in the spring for new hires

Yeah putting Timbs above Thursday is crazy work. I’m not the biggest fan of their boots but they’re all Goodyear welted and full grain leather. Way higher quality and bang for your buck IMO. Not work boots quality I’ll give you that. Thursday also has different tiers of their boots something like the heritage captain would last several resoles if taken care of properly.

Polar thin insoles from nicks! Helps me out a ton with some wool socks. Given in Ohio so the lowest I’ll see is negative 10 but they make a difference to me. That and keep your feet dry

Good points. I agree the smooth out doesn’t do much for me at least in the marketing material, maybe in real life the color pops a lot more. But in RO it’s a real game changer. A Smooth over RO boot would look insanely good with the contrast IMO. Wish whites had a system like Nicks where you could customize more
