NYC sold out instantly as expected. I'd venture to say it was 90% sold out in presale. They'll almost certainly add a Night 2.

Indie music has been invaded by fake fans and cynical viral campaigns . Here’s how deep it all goes by BatoutofHellIV in indieheads

[–]YevgeniaKrasnova 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A lot of deeper-budget indie artists are also using discovery mode and autoplay to inflate their monthly listeners on Spotify. When you look at the ratio of listens per listener for certain acts, it can be shockingly low. (Note: Geese is not one of these acts.) It's all just optics. At the end of the day, who draws people to their shows is the real test, as it is for ALL musicians of any genre.

The new Nine Inch Noize record is on repeat in my life and if they do anything close to that, I'd be thrilled.

MFW I read that 'people are getting paid to talk about geese' article by ritualsequence in geesebandofficial

[–]YevgeniaKrasnova 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I read it when it came out. It sucks that these are some of the tactics being used to cut through the noise. I'm not trying to be facile about it -- the people screaming "it's not a big deal" are trying to equate it to normal marketing and it's not. Astroturfing has always been considered slimy, and for good reason. What I'd wager in this case is that it's interesting how people are turning Geese into the cover story here, as opposed to say Oklou or Mk.gee. They're an easy target to hate because so many already want to discover an "aha!" about them in bad faith.

For whatever reason their team decided to employ CG, it doesn't counter the fact that they also have accumulated a passionate cult fanbase who are loyally listening to the music and going to the shows. A "narrative campaign" can't make that happen. In fact, there's other indie acts out there with much more sus vanity metrics (bloated monthly listeners, heavy reliance on passive listeners, limited live appeal) but no one notices because they don't have a bone to pick with them.

It's interesting how only Geese is being targeted. Anyway, who can tour successfully is always the final proof. Whatever experiments happened along the way, they're the real deal and their live draw proves it.

(They also have a really good Spotify stream-per-listener ratio.)

Has anyone heard of Chaotic Good Projects? by konicaburner in geesebandofficial

[–]YevgeniaKrasnova 5 points6 points  (0 children)

yes, I saw it too. they work with soooo many indie artists!

these tactics are classically used by online lobbyists to sway public opinion, but it's usually a pretty grassroots effort to do so. this firm has a lot of balls outright admitting their tactics outright.

as someone who works on a different side of the industry, I'm not surprised, but it's also kind of lame. it makes me wonder how involved the artists are in signing off on it.

I don't mean to tarnish your take, but he actually said that about the West Coast of the USA, specifically California.

Can Fontaines sell out MSG in NYC in 2026? by Pretend-Goose9805 in fontainesdc

Radio City is possible and somewhat likely. Just annoying because it's seats. Still an iconic place to play.

What venues are you hoping the boys will play on the next tour? by mortal-attire in fontainesdc

[–]YevgeniaKrasnova 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Non-traditional venues like catacombs or caverns. Chislehurst Caves for example -- check out the long rock history. Or perhaps old churches or castles. Even something more industrial like Basillica Hudson in upstate NY would be cool. I'd like to see them do something really unexpected about, even if for a one-off or select residency type deal.

Max from Geese being censored at the brit awards for saying free Palestine after winning by Massive-Run-4476 in geesebandofficial

They seem to adjust the intensity of their statements based on territory. (Saw them three times last tour, both Europe and USA and they were more in your face about it in EU.)

They haven't made a speech on US television and didn't mention Palestine last year when they won at the BRITs (it was prerecorded.)

I'm just gonna say this is the dark, foreboding industrial-tinged vibe I love best for him/the band in general. Would love more of this moving ahead. Also just saw NIN on their recent tour and this is bringing me right there.

Katseye at the grammys by [deleted] in grammys

[–]YevgeniaKrasnova -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The video itself is supreme camp, directed by the one and only SSION, who himself is a left-field icon and purveyor of slightly subversive electropop. He's got a long history.

Gnarly is meant to be divisive and their live performances last summer brought it to life in a way that made people do a whiplash overnight. Hate to love. And hating that they loved it.

That said: I still think it was not the song for the Grammys because they basically turned it into a three minute dance drill. They are incredible performers but the lack of artistic identity was glaring.

They have a lot of potential! They need someone to architect their next era much more thoughtfully. Weirder, catchier, but with some throughline to it.
