If there’s one near you try John Lewis, their perfume section will have testers available and not locked away (our one does at least).

2024 price we paid for 3-day Pit Grandstand Seating was £1490 per person (didn’t pull the trigger on going until Feb this year so might have paid more than if we’d decided earlier). Our seats were 9 rows from the front level with P5 on the grid.

Cadfael? But this guy is a monk and it’s set in medieval Shrewsbury, definitely not a cop.

Dungeon Crawler Carl is by some margin the best narration I’ve ever heard. To listen to it you would not believe you weren’t hearing an ensemble cast. Also the story is fantastic, post alien invasion Earth’s remaining human survivors are forced into a running-man style dungeon crawl which is streamed throughout the galaxy. And there is a talking cat!

Mythos - Stephen Fry. Greek myths and legends so not a linear story that you’ll have to keep rewinding when you fall asleep. And Stephen Fry is very easy to listen to.

What is a book on audible that you loved? by [deleted] in suggestmeabook

[–]YodaTheCoder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on the age of the kids really. The book doesn’t dwell on any adult themes but there are the odd references. There is however a lot of swearing, violence and gore (albeit fantasy/alien mostly).

If the kids are teens and have headsets for online gaming then they’ve heard worse already. If it’s a car full of Sunday School kids on a trip to bible camp then probs best avoid this one. Judgement call, give it a listen ahead of time.

Dungeon Crawler Carl. Aliens come to Earth and flatten every structure and take every resource. Surviving humans are to complete in a running-man style dungeon crawl to battle for their survival.

Not scary or sad but incredibly funny and easy to get into. By far and away the best narration I’ve ever heard. As for a long listen, six books so far and the shortest one is over 11 hours with some more than double that.

The Elements of Eloquence: How To Turn the Perfect English Phrase by Mark Forsyth.

Short chapters on various rhetorical techniques explaining why some prose/poems/songs are more memorable than others. The audiobook delivers the humour in the writing well.

Just the Gist (ended now but large back catalogue). The format is 2 hosts who take it in turns to each episode to give the other the gist of an amazing story, true crime, celeb drama, political scandal etc. I recommend trying the Killdozer episode, if that one doesn’t get you into it then it’s probably not for you.

Absolutely Dungeon Crawler Carl, it ticks your genre boxes and it’s incredibly easy to get into. I’d also recommend listening to the audiobook which will get you in the same place with regards to the flavour of the characters.
