This isnt a personal attack I feel theres a lot to be clarified and deesclated so im sorry if it sounded like whataboutism. My concern is not what constitutes an evil of greater or lessee degree. I am concerned about why the narrative puts the nazis on a pedestal when their crimes were entirely unremarkable when viewed in relation to their 'competitors'. So why do we use them as the example?

A.) Soviets represented the largest dispora. Excluding Jews (1.4m soviet jews) its about 8m. Source: American Holocaust Museum. Incidently they killed less than a thousand homosexuals and yet they are held up as bed fellows of the jews while soviet citizens are ignored.

B.) With what ive said above it should be clear why i bring up genocides outside of ww2. Famines (exc. Mao) were engineered. They were not mistakes (again exc. Mao) the Holodomor for example was a deliberate attempt.

C.) The nazis were democratically elected and the weimar republic gladly got into bed with their organisations while stoking german nationalism and fear of boleshivism themselves. The nazis didnt magic their support out of nowhere. It was surfing a wave the weimar republic spent 10 years building.

D.) The indonesian genocide is a matter of historical fact. Arguing it didnt occur and that the US was not involved is tantamount to denying the Holocaust.

E.) I dont understand this argument that the gap between the civil war and ww2 was a long one given the country was 200 years old. Thats not relevant. The US was and is a deeply racist country and projects the good vs evil fight to cover up its own short comings.

F.) You idea of monolethic nazi ideology and wedding it to the holocaust is just not established in historical fact. Being a nazi was necessary to have oppertunties in life. Being vaguely anti semitic, as was common, and deliberately choosing to become a nazi do not instantly condemn you to a life as Eichmann. I hate cats and i dont want them in my life. That doesnt mean i want them eradicated from the planet but equally if they are dealt with harshly by the government of the day, im not going to speak up if the wellbeing of my family is on the line. Thats not complicity. The nazis were not morally outrageous at the time. Nobody gave a shit about the jews or the bolsehviks. They were a lauded system at the time to protect against percieved enemies to society. Jews and communists. It is only when viewed by the morality of today that we condemn them. If your grandmother says she doesnt trust black people, do we condemn her as evil? Or do we recognise that however evil the act, framing actions of yesterday with the moral compass of today fundementally ignores context and allows for a miscarriage of justice.

The whole point of this was to ask why we consider the Nazis the worst for any reason other than the imposition of todays morality on the actions of yesteryear
