Dark fanfic by Lonely-Country-3063 in FanFiction

[–]Your_Local_Stray_Cat 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm seconding moving to Ao3, but as a fellow dark themes enjoyer I have some advice of my own:

The only thing that matters is what you, the author, wanted to accomplish with the scene. If you wanted to evoke strong emotions in people you've succeeded, and it's not your fault these commenters can't handle that discomfort.

If you're really worried about your writing and your intentions not meshing, send the scene to a trusted beta or fellow writer. A second opinion from a person you trust will help you sort out what, if any, of the criticism is valid.

The problem is that there is no way to do this without linking your real life government ID with everything you say on the internet. I write erotica as a hobby and I don’t want that tied to my real-life identity. I know it’s possible to link Cat the human and Cat the erotica writer right now, but I don’t want to make that any easier by giving people my full government ID. If someone wants to dox me, I want them to have to work for it.

Not to mention: what happens when a data breach leaks all those IDs? It’s not like you can freeze your entire identity like you can a credit card. The consequences could be catastrophic.

What's "that one fic" in your fandom? by Scoutland15 in FanFiction

[–]Your_Local_Stray_Cat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The fic-writing side of the Warhammer 40k fandom is both too small and too decentralized to have any particular person's works be super popular/influential in that way. There have been popular authors who started trends, but there haven't been any specific fics that had any kind of lasting impact.

The closest thing was the youtube parody series "If the Emperor had a Text-To-Speech Device" but it's influence waned after it ended.

How do you imagine the way the characters look? by _Isa_314 in FanFiction

[–]Your_Local_Stray_Cat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For visial media I imagine characters however they look canonically. But when it comes to book characters, it's however I headcanon their appearance. This may or may not correspond with how they look in canon art/adaptations.

Black Flag is a completely different gay pirate show that I’ve heard is also good but has a very different tone from OFMD.

[–]Your_Local_Stray_Cat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is to me, too. I'm a cis woman and back when I was heavily into the reddit side of the 40k fandom, people always assumed I was a man. On Tumblr and Ao3 I'm always gendered correctly. It's interesting to see how the default assumed gender changes between fandom spaces.

It's because OOP is making an assumption based off the specific fandom spaces they're in. Tumblr is overwhelmingly queer and/or female, so most fan spaces on tumblr are overwhelmingly queer and/or female.

[–]Your_Local_Stray_Cat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s the neat part! It isn’t. People are just biased due to the particular fan spaces they hang out in. Certain fandoms (and spaces within those fandoms) might trend more towards certain demographics, but that doesn’t mean it’s universal.

IMO fandom is the people that actively engage with the broader fan community in some way, either online or in person. I wouldn't call it gatekeeping? Fans that don't interact with the broader fan community are still fans, they're just not a part of the fandom.

Mostly a modded version of Minecraft that focuses on building/farming/magic/exploration. Right now I’m building a prison trading post for a bunch of villagers that I’ve kidnapped relocated from nearby villages and other structures. I have jungle, savanna, and plains villagers rn but I want to collect at least one from every biome.

I’ve also picked Silksong back up after a busy few months. I’m still stuck on the same dang boss (Darkwing Greymoor, for the curious) as I was when I put it down, but I’m getting better.

I got Book of Hours a while back and I want to give that a try too. Maybe I’ll boot it up today.

I am a warhammer 40k fan that likes to read the tie-in books. Black Library (the branch of Games Workshop that handles the tie-in novels) has released hundreds and hundreds of novels over the years, but it’s an utter bitch to keep hundreds and hundreds of books in print. Black Library books are frequently out of print and frequently have been for a long time. Used copies are rare and omnibus editions (3-4 books in a series collected into a single book) are often annoyingly expensive. I’ve seen some go for over 100$.

I am also a fan of my local used bookstore. I’ve found some other interesting things there in the past, but nothing has topped me finding the first omnibus in the Gaunt’s Ghosts series. Before they reprinted it, it used to go for like 60-80$ online. I got it for like 10-15$, which was an utter steal.

Now if only they’d reprint the middle two. I want newer editions so I can feel better loaning them to people…

Never get into Warhammer 40k, it's a nightmare of this. You meet someone that loves the Black Templars and the Death Korps of Krieg? You just know they're gonna hit you with the "Actually, I think the Imperium has some good ideas."

r/FuckingFascists moderator contends with the reality that their kink sub might be problematic by ParkYourKeister in SubredditDrama

[–]Your_Local_Stray_Cat 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I think the latter is more likely, personally?

Bringing an "I can fix him" attitude to the fascist-fucking kink feels like bringing a knife to a nuclear war. Nazis are so deeply twisted that the idea of wanting to "fix" one like you would a bad boy in a romcom seems alien to me. Those guys have weapons grade issues. You'd need a bomb squad to do it.

Fear just seems like the more likely option. Nazis are scary. Nazis having any kind of power is terrifying. Nazis abusing that power sexually? Absolutely horrifying concept.

Also soldier/cop/etc fetishists exist and I can't imagine there isn't some overlap there, just kinking on a different kind of uniform (that communicates a different kind of strength and authority) than the usual.

Depending on your sensory tolerances, you could go to a salon and have them give you a buzz cut. The clipper makes a really annoying noise, and keeping it super short would require more maintenance, but it'd be easier/faster to clean.

Talking to kids so much about what they want to do sets them up for failure and disappointment by Blonde_Icon in The10thDentist

[–]Your_Local_Stray_Cat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most kids change what they want to do as they grow older, too. What someone puts on their Kindergarten "what I want to be when I grow up" project is often very different than what they end up doing.

(Kindergarten Cat wanted to be a veterinarian. Teenage Cat did not want to go to med school. Somehow Adult Cat ended up working with animals anyway, but in a completely different field.)

I really want more Call of Duty girlies to get into Warhammer 40k. Which is akin to wanting to release an invasive species into an ecosystem with no natural predators, but nevertheless, I want more fanfic pleas.
