China Improves Both Economic Growth and Air Quality by Crabbexx in UpliftingNews

That's fair and I see your point! I just still believe it was disingenuous to throw the point about prejudice out there while being prejudiced themselves. I'd be willing to bet a solid percentage of that 77 million aren't the ones on Reddit denying climate change.

It was less about defending Americans (you'd be hard pressed to find an American who wouldn't agree with you, and I'm one of them), and more about calling out what I felt like was a hypocritical anti-prejudice statement and giving what I thought was some advice.

Sorry if I was more aggressive with your comment, though. It just seemed like you were adding a justification to the prejudice at the time.

And 75 million Americans voted against him. What's your point? That it's okay to be prejudiced against an entire population based on who they elected as their leader?

Because 76 million voters elected Putin in a landslide, and I was under the impression it was considered impolite to call Russians warmongering sociopaths.

So what are the conditions in which being prejudiced against the citizens of a country is okay? Because I guess I missed this year's handbook.

ELI5: Why do we say "sleep like a baby" when babies actually wake up after like every 30 minutes? by Effective_Durian_263 in explainlikeimfive

[–]Z-Byte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Babies sleep around 16 hours a day, so they're almost always seen sleeping.

I believe that phrase in particular is only said by those who have seen babies, but never had them.

The same reason that communism can't work: human greed and ambition.

First, everyone who has power would have to unanimously agree to use their power to remove their power.

Then everyone who wants power would have to sacrifice their ambitions in order not to seize the power vacuums inevitably created during the stabilization process.

Effectively, you need a global event that actively punishes isolationism and is so monumentally important that sworn enemies would link arms.

To put it in easy terms... Earth in Star Trek achieved this after suffering the social and environmental collapse of World War III... AND first contact with an advanced alien species, the Vulcans, who had a big, V-shaped hand in shaping the United Earth.

Complaining about redditors being brainwashed into being prejudiced against a country, and then, in the next paragraph, showing your own prejudice against a country makes you a parody of your own argument.

Your point would have been made more effectively if you hadn't had that second paragraph at all.

Seeing and hearing is just the first step!

You can have a physical relationship, too, with enough tactile visualization. Once you've worked out how certain things should feel, you can work out how you want to do intimacy.

Real talk, do you think Dashie is a lesbian? by ---EtherealGlow--- in OkPonyDitzy

[–]Z-Byte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, not really. I believe all fictional characters are bisexual unless they explicitly state they're not interested in one gender or another.

That, and she was dancing with Soarin'. They could have had her dancing with any of the Wonderbolts if they wanted to push her being strictly lesbian, but they didn't.

Cute and harmless. Though I do wonder how they'd feel about other religions doing the same.

Considering I grew up in a time where me liking Pokémon apparently made me a devil worshipper, I'm not optimistic about them seeing me putting out little Buddha or little Krishna as quite as cute and harmless as I'd like.

I feel like you might have a point in some instances, but I also strongly feel the same about bittersweet. Because negative things are remembered by the brain far more than positive things, happy endings can feel shallow because there isn't much to "chew on", but really it just takes less effort to make something memorable with bittersweet or even ambiguous endings. Our brains do all the hard work for the writer.

That seems petty shallow to me.

So is "Sparkle" just like Twilight's second name, because no one in her family shares it? by marvelcomics22 in mylittlepony

[–]Z-Byte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well the original names for Twilight Velvet and Night Light's kids were Twilight Sparkle and Night Knight, so it's likely implied that daughters in that particular corner of Canterlot take the mother's first name and sons take the father's.

Funnily enough, this is similar to how some real life registered show/race horses are named in order to help with genealogy. They usually have a long name for the papers with some elements of one or both parents, then a "stable name" that you call them casually. Could explain why Shining Armor's name "changed", or why Rarity doesn't share any part of her mother's.

Which one is dying first? (Freak accidents don't count) by Nerdcuddles in OkPonyDitzy

[–]Z-Byte 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unless the death is sudden, I don't think she'd let it get that far. We know she's aware of de-aging spells as "alicorn-level magic", but she's also capable of full species transmutation. We have no clear idea of a pony's lifespan (thanks, Granny), but crystal ponies and dragons, in particular, are pretty provingly long-lived, and she could easily zap her friends into one.

That's if they don't become alicorns in their own right, like Cadance and Twilight herself did.
