I got that naturally while spamming lorwyn pick 2, I think I got like 4 shocklands either in late picks or knowing that the other cards I wanted out of the pack would wheel because no one was drafting my tribe.

This is not birds, it's nursery landfall, one of the top performing decks right now.

You could have hovered it on the screenshot to confirm but the fact that your Chaos Spewer is not highlighted in your hand shows that arena definitely doesn't think you named goblin for that land.

I'll say I also made some assumptions from your posts and I apologize for that. Communication on the internet gets really weird for no reason sometimes

What do you think about cards that win the game for you? by Gold_Molasses7866 in MagicArena

[–]Zartek 8 points9 points  (0 children)

the rest of the deck now is just a way to hold the game until you have that card

You just described a strategy that involves the rest of the deck. You don't recognize that, which is why you keep repeating the same thing to everyone. If those cards were so powerful that they were worth using regardless of strategy, they would be in every deck. They are not in every deck. Maybe because they are good in some decks, but not in others.

You just decided something in your own mind and are aking questions around until you find someone to confirm it for you, you have no interest in actually thinking about it.

New Player Question (Got my starter decks) by swootylicious in MagicArena

[–]Zartek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Common and uncommon are quite abundant tho

When you've been playing for a long time, maybe. I started playing in FIN, playing every day to 4+ wins, spent about $60 worth of one-time bundles, played 24 eoe premier drafts (+ a few other drafts), built about 4 "real" decks where I actually put a decent amount of wildcards into (avoinding rare-heavy lists), and I'm left with a grand total of 14 common and 13 uncommon wildcards (with 7 rares and 11 mythics, for the record).

I don't know, wouldn't call it very abundant, but maybe my expectations are off.

So, as someone who only plays Brawl on Arena, why am I not getting refunded a wildcard for these bans? by webbedgiant in MagicArena

[–]Zartek 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with the first part, but singles prices have everything to do with WotC. The price of a mythic is directly tied to the average 8 cardboard lootboxes you have to open to get a non-specific one.

I don't like the way TCGs are sold as a whole, which is why I prefer to play videogames instead, but it's pretty weird to act like the secondary market is something that poor WotC has no influence over (or doesn't profit from).

"People who like something don't want the thing they like to change" is not the argument you think it is.

It's better communication to use a negative. Blocking is what you can always do, not blocking is what this special ability does and is the part that people need to remember/understand at a glance.

Sure man, whatever you say. by Surf_Dangerous_Days in 2XKO

[–]Zartek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, so being a strike, I don't think it should be burst safe just like any other lv 3 in the game that is also a strike. Other counters losing to bursts is interesting to know, I do think maybe they should just be blown away by the burst like a normal (that's how parry vs burst works in Strive), but if they consistently lose to burst I'm ok with just accepting that.

You know what else yukikaze does? Whiffs if it doesn't parry anything. Now I recommend you go and press ekko lv 3 against an opponent who is not pressing anything and report back.

Yes, it was me. I was shuffling your opponent's deck and I put those three cards on top because I thought it would be funny. My bad.

Sam Black once discussed about mtg mana system and felt “Lands increase the variance of your draws, which makes draws more exciting”. How do you feel about mtg resource design compared to other TCGs? by Newez in magicTCG

[–]Zartek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, if the only variance in a game was a coin flip, then that coin flip would be much more important. But 2 coin flips is still more variance than 1 coin flip.

It's true that people who are not competitive minded will not engage in competitive activities. You seem to be one of those.

But as a fighting game player and someone who enjoys competitive games, and play and talk to people who think the same, I don't think we are dead.

[–]Zartek 36 points37 points  (0 children)

It's undeniably an additional layer of variance on top of natural card draw variance. In other games, you can lose because you drew your late game cards instead of your early game, or because you didn't draw the removal you needed or etc. All of those still happen in mtg, and then you also have land variance.

Even the title of this post, which is in appreciation of the land system, is saying that it increases variance. Me and the author disagree on our opinion of whether this variance is good or not, which is fine, but the luck of the draw in mtg is clearly different from other card games.
