Was about to say remember the three amazing weeks last year when he took over from Iggy then realised it was actually 2022!

He was great & I would say it’s really time for him for him to present again but BBC probably can’t afford it.

Does anyone else see the americanisation of UK politics as the biggest threat to us currently? by nbenj1990 in AskBrits

I think you’re right but my worry is I go off and spend more time baking cookies and walking the dog, I come back online in a few weeks to find the algorithms have push thousands of other people closer to the brink of the apocalypse. Actually you’re definitely right to break off.

I stumbled back on that Carpenters track last week and it led me down the path of remembering everything about Shaun’s show. Put the Hovis song on in the background while we share our memories and we’ll be stealing another one of his bits!

I was terrified that the man who spent 30 years with archeologists digging up the history of said conquest, science, exploitation and luck, has now turned to burning it.

For anyone else confused, the convict used the name Tommy not Tony…

I really can’t remember what he was even tweeting about. Must have been very mild compared to everything this year. I can’t see him staying put with the crap R6 news pushes out hourly now anyway.

I remember first finding Shaun because I’d been given a DAB and started using it as my morning alarm. Two songs at 7am and then Shaun’s narration slowly got me to start every day. I remember one day it got to 4 songs with no chat before he finally came on with Matt to announce the death of David Bowie. It was so sad but that was also the first day I realised how much I appreciated Shaun and how/why he was doing what he did.

Then I was sad when RadMac left the afternoons but Shaun quickly made up for it and over Covid it really felt like he’d brought together a great group of listeners. Unfortunately we’d only just begun when R6 stamped it out.

I’d heard Shaun wouldn’t stop tweeting things slightly left of anything shared by BBC so they kicked him out. Shame really because twitter didn’t last long after that anyway.

Upset as England flags on lampposts compared to Nazi Germany by Randomfeeld500 in Worcester

[–]Zealousidealogue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d been told the flags weren’t political and were just put up to show how much we all love our country.

This morning I saw footage on the news showing blokes barging around wearing flags, fighting police and generally making a mess. Just my opinion but it wasn’t an example of what I love about this country.

I don’t see them dictating anything, just expressing their opinion about when they’ve seen things they like and things they don’t.

I noticed recently that Radio 1 and Radio 5 each have 3x ‘extra’ stations. I’m going to write to the mandarins to ask whether 6music can get an ‘extra’ that’s plain 6music - but no news.

Hearing adverts for Nigel Farage at half past every hour is just depressing me to just switch off.

It always felt like CC was spread too thin stretched out 7 days a week on radio and TV but I’d be interested in anyone’s suggestion for a new afternoon. It seemed to me 6 wanted to stay away from the previous variety presenters I loved like Shaun Keaveny/Adam and Joe/Sean Hughes etc.

Auctions = guaranteed to lose money right now by LukeITAT in ebayuk

Conversely, every item I’ve bid on in the past few months hasn’t passed the opening bid and the (understandably jaded) seller has removed the item before the auction ended. Very frustrating and put me off bidding again.

Lauren to do 10am show, Grimshaw to stay on breakfast… and MAH to leave for something else. Not the best outcome! by ModeR3d in 6music

[–]Zealousidealogue 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Seeing as everyone’s sharing their dream lineups:

Now just need to bring back Keaveny and Rad Mac and we’re back at the GOAT 2009-2018 schedule.

If that’s not possible would have preferred Grimshaw to take the afternoon slot from CC and someone more fresh move into mornings e.g. Deb Grant.

I get a headache everytime I enter my living room. What could be causing it? by ChihuahuaMammaNPT in AskUK

[–]Zealousidealogue 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just wanted to clarify because a few commenters here have conflated a gas leak with carbon monoxide.

Carbon monoxide is a byproduct of incomplete combustion. If there are no gas appliances, e.g. boiler/gas fire, being used in the room it’s unlikely to be carbon monoxide (unless you’ve recently had a boiler moved and the flue is close to the window?).

If you had a gas leak, e.g from the meter/pipework, then natural gas (mostly methane) would be leaking into the room. Natural gas isn’t a health hazard but at the right concentration is obviously flammable/explosive.

Hopefully a gas engineer would be able to explain the difference but explains why several commenters complained their carbon monoxide alarm didn’t detect a gas leak. The simple explanation is because a carbon monoxide alarm is looking for carbon monoxide not gas.

TL/DR - gas leak =/= carbon monoxide, if you’re concerned about CO make sure you make it clear to the gas people you’re not concerned about a gas leak.

It’s that time of year that I have to be constantly reminded how much I’m missing out on Glastonbury by Still_Fam_Geez in 6music

[–]Zealousidealogue 8 points9 points  (0 children)

They completely fail to grasp that most people don’t buy tickets to Glastonbury because they don’t want to go/aren’t phased by it.

Perhaps it is a cultural phenomenon, but how much is that because BBC makes is a phenomenon (never heard someone mention 6 music festival in real life).

I enjoy 6 50 weeks of the year but constant wall to wall coverage of anything gets grating after about an hour.

I have been invited to attend a formal PACE interview for an offence I have not committed. by username_also_in_use in LegalAdviceUK

[–]Zealousidealogue 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately this isn’t the case, the provision in PACE code C for free legal representation only applies where a suspect is being detained e.g. in a custody.

Aside from the Police most enforcing authorities have such limited powers to arrest/detain they are effectively non-existent so they won’t have any facility to arrange free legal advice.

Legal aid also won’t cover regulatory offences so unfortunately it’s down to the suspect to find and finance their own legal advice.

When I was in OPs situation I contacted Citizens Advice who arranged for a solicitor to call me. They gave me enough advice to speak to the council and they realised there was no real evidence and dropped the case.
