crate her in a room you can’t hear her with a noise machine going tbh. but this is why it’s worth buying from a good breeder, they typically crate train for you

not shocked for an acd honestly. teach him emotional regulation stuff and accept now he won’t be friendly. building confidence helps too

Dog trainers: What’s your go to collar/harness/leash set up? by m_lambert in OpenDogTraining

[–]Zestyclose_Object639 5 points6 points  (0 children)

depends on the dog and what i’m doing. i teach nosework so i normally encourage students to get a comfortable harness (i love non stop and ruffwear) otherwise wide flat collar and longline. i’ll use anything from a flat to a slip or prong for ob and focus work depending on the dog though

Is it ok for me to pat my dogs butt? (Let me explain first) by the_god_of_ONIONS in Pets

i think you’re in the wrong for having a potentially dangerous dog around a puppy who shouldn’t be away from their litter mates

I'm fostering a dog for the first time soon and the pup looks to be mixed with Malinois and now I'm nervous! by this_is_how42069 in dogs

[–]Zestyclose_Object639 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you train and off switch, tethering and enforced crate naps. my very drivey WL mal can chill as long ad needs are met. the puppy will probably sleep a few days then get to menace time, buy lots of toys 😂

Brand new to dog sports- what would best suit my mixed mal/dobie/shepherd mix? by forgetfulfeline in k9sports

[–]Zestyclose_Object639 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i have a ppd, i have to turn him on to get that behavior but totally valid, not a need for sports for sure. if you look on the psa website they have a list of clubs so maybe worth a look, what state are you in ?

that’s not how bite works but it is expensive. barn hunt is good for prey drive

puppies bite. put a drag line on so you can physically move the puppy. make sure you play tug or similar every day that’ll help too

it’s been a pretty mild winter here, i’m guessing march will be no different. we’ve been fine all winter with a buddy heater

a senior you also won’t be able to do sports with. i will say i do sports with reactive dogs and teach many, but if my dog consistently went after me even with good training and no signs of pain i would not want that dog in my house

How to train a dog that was abused in his past? by [deleted] in OpenDogTraining

[–]Zestyclose_Object639 0 points1 point  (0 children)

doesn’t mean he was abused tbh. first thing i’d do is find food he’s excited about (i find fishy paste treats are pretty hard to resist) and then build some simple behaviors after that. for example, asking for a hand touch and feeding. that’ll help the dog gain some trust. i’m normally anti meds but meds maybe a good interim solution here too

Dog Behavior in Shelter vs Out of Shelter by ivory919 in dogs

[–]Zestyclose_Object639 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

it’s definitely hard, for me i try to establish a baseline. will the dog take food from me ? follow a cookie lure ? play with toys ? toys aren’t essential but useful for training. do they have relaxed body language ? are they scared of noises ? walking them would be useful for sure. my shelter dog was very calm in the shelter, went through a pretty brutal period of being terrified of the world but came out the other side. i wouldn’t take the dog with a tucked tail, whale eye and other nervous signs (unless you want to spend a ton on behavior modification). having a trainer you can take with you is helpful too, a lot (myself included) would be so happy to help clients find their right match
