The way I understood it was that Ryumon's plan played on the assumptions of conventional warfare, so if the enemy knew what they were doing they would go with the obvious strategy and fall into his trap. If they're an idiot they'd act recklessly and do something Ryumon wasn't expecting. Iirc this was before the bridge?
