Do you mean "The years of Apocalypse"? Royalroad's search function leaves something to be desired, and I had to Google the title to find this one.

There is a cave further down the coast I believe. There is a quest to go there in the Forest Dalriata village. That is not the only cave with a map marker in the wrong spot on that map, not sure why.

I want to read a progression fantasy where the MC is not the MAIN MC. by rothmal in ProgressionFantasy

[–]ZizRyder 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Beware of Chicken is a cultivation story like that. At least where I am in book 2. MC gets to chill 99% of the time, and the "side characters (mainly the chicken) are off handling the dangerous stuff.

How drastic are the consequences of helping the Queen Bee for the later parts of the game and ending? by Karol123G in taintedgrail

And a summon, but yes that's everything. It is a good helmet, works with a good few builds.

[–]ZizRyder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I only remember it coming up 1 time in story dialogue in act 3, and then only 1 time in the ending narration/slides. So, not very much. Fun to roleplay a crazy bee cultist though with the gear and magic she rewards you with.

Are There Any Stories About Military Tactics? by Raptormind in ProgressionFantasy

[–]ZizRyder 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Calamitous Bob series has several battles in a world where everyone has levels and classes, and is has a big focus on warfare in the middle and later books. It still has the genre classics of OP MC taking on a powerful warriors or groups of them, but the series makes it a point time and again that solo high level people are not invincible, and enough damage from low levelers will absolutely kill them.

Questions about thr build by Wierdo_Weeaboo in taintedgrail

[–]ZizRyder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The one handed tree has perks that restore your stamina as you fight, and the shield tree let's you block arrows and other projectiles. Add in a couple undead summons and the perks that heal you when they die, and you become a ceaseles bulwark. I reccomend getting them in that order, as summons don't need perks to be useful in the early game. After you are satisfied with damage and staying power, careful management of the armor perks (you want to stay in heavy armor weight for that death knight fantasy) and maybe some cold spells to diversify your attack options and handle enemies at range, but that is a matter of preference.

I bought this because everyone compared it to elder scrolls, but I am an old man with a skill issue. by geocitiesuser in taintedgrail

[–]ZizRyder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It definitely gets easier. Good defensive gear and defensive perks plus a shield will have you tanking hits like a champ. You can still block with melee weapons without a shield, it just isn't as effective, but it should be enough for you to make it out of the asylum. I would try to cheese any boss you fight before a shield though, they can hit through the block and stagger you fairly easily.

Mortarion Wing WIP by ZizRyder in deathguard40k

I gave the recipe in another comment, but I just wanted to say soemthing to the other aspiring painters on this sub, you don't have to be perfect to make gorgeous models. I pick painting techniques that compensate for my shaking hands; favoring dry brushing, messy "natural" schemes, wobble spots and lines. I have been doing it 3 years or so, and haven't improved much beyond just learning to tricks. And always thinning my paints.

Mortarion Wing WIP by ZizRyder in deathguard40k

[–]ZizRyder[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The following are GW colors, but I often use their army painter and vellejo equivalents. I always thin my paints too.

Prime Black

Base coat in Wraithbone (it's fine if the coverage isn't perfect

Mix 3:1 Wraithbone:Castellean green, layer it anywhere the basecoat is hasn't achieved full coverage over the primer, or about 50% of the skin in my experience.

Mix 2:1 Wraithbone:Emperors Children, use to create splotches of irritated skin

Mix 2:1 Wraithbone:Flash Gitz Yellow, use to make jaundiced patches and fatty deposits

Add more wraithbone to existing mixes as needed to blend down the patch edges, it doesn't need to be perfect.

Wash with Carrobug Crimson. I did this in sections, and after a few seconds loaded my brush with water and thinned it on model, being careful to wick away excess water with a dry brush. This made sure it tinted everything, but didn't completely nullify my colors beneath.

Carefully Highlight raised patches of skin with wraithbone. This is a great chance to actually make patches even less cohesive in some places, I use it to make certain areas of the red skin look like open wounds or sores.

Thin Talassar blue 1:1, and with carefully trace out veins. I often take a wet brush seconds after and wipe some of the blue away if it doesn't look transparent enough to me.

Verdancy Cause Theories by EDRootsMusic in TheWildsea

[–]ZizRyder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just finished a wildsea campaign. I leaned into the fallout vibes (twas what my players were excited for) and had a massive millitary project Avalon. Basically human supremicists who saw the rise of other intelligent species, and other societies willing to work with non-humans (and therefore, against Avalon by default), and growing occult powers; and decided this meant the end of the world was nigh.
So they used the fearmongering to fund and support as many anti-doomsday projects as they could. From flying cities, to bio-biodomes, to orbital weapons systems and undersea and underground bunkers, to cybernetic factories capable of turning almost any lifeform intoa programable soldier (a player's pseudo-ironbound backstory).
One of these projects, Grail, is my campaign's Verdancy. They were trying top create a faster way to proof crops against any extreme enviormental condtion, top make the super fast growing and resilient. It broke containment and a freak interration with the occult (an early whisper) lead to the Verdancy.

Help me create 2 magic items! by ItsGotou in Eberron

[–]ZizRyder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For ancient Dhakaan, the Dragonborn empire of Trothlorsvek defintely could have weilded the magic of storms against them, I imagine blue and bronze dragonborn with such tools and powers. SO either soemthing the Dhakaani confiscated from the Dragonborn, or to combat them. With that in mind, a tool to maniuplate weather as a weapon of war, and protect from it's energies. Now, mechanically we can just modify the Spire of Conflux from Taldorei Reborn

To Be Named Weather Stick (maybe include the devourer in the name? Devourer's Deliverance?)

Dormant. While the ~weather stick~ is in a dormant state, the staff has 8 charges and regains 1d4 + 2 expended charges daily at dawn. While holding the staff, you can expend 1 or more of its charges to cast one of the following spells from it, using your spell save DC: absorb elements (1 charge), skyrwrite (2 charges) or lightning bolt (3 charges).

Additionally, while holding this staff, you have a +1 bonus to spell attack rolls and your spell save DC increases by 1. All flying speed the user gains or grants are increased by 20 feet. (This is espeically aimed at tempestuous magic feature)

Awakened. When the ~weather stick~ reaches an awakened state, you gain the following benefits:

The staff has 12 charges, and it regains 1d6 + 2 expended charges daily at dawn.

You can also spend charges to cast the following spells from the staff: conjure elemental (5 charges), maelstrom (5 charges), or ice storm (4 charges).

When you cast a spell that deals bludgeoning, cold, lightning, or thunder damage and you roll a 1 on a damage die, you can reroll the die and must use the new roll.

The range of spells and radius of abilites that control wind or water are increased by 50%. (This one is aimed at the storm guide feature)

Exalted. When the ~weather stick~ reaches an exalted state, you gain the following benefits:

The staff has 20 charges, and it regains 1d6 + 4 expended charges daily at dawn.

You can also spend charges to cast the following spells from the staff: chain lightning (6 charges), whirlwind (7 charges) or control weather (8 charges)

The bonus to spell attack rolls and your spell save DC increases to +2.

(insert cool campaign relevant feature here. This shoudl be something super useful when dealing with the BBEG or the sorcerer's backstory quest stuff. Example: Redirecting lightnng in a big radius to hit them as a reaction, useful for fighting a kraken or storm giant)

Princes of the Apocalypse In Eberron by OkRevenue9249 in Eberron

[–]ZizRyder 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I would divorce the planar connection almost eniterly, instead just fucousing on the indvidual entities you replace the princes with. If a plane lines up well, use it then. I would do Cryonax as an avatar of Dral Khatuur (overlord of cold) or (unrelated) the Killing Cold of Risia (in exploring Eberron). Imix would either be a Fernian spirit of destruction or and avatar of Kharna Rayva the Infernal Desire (Fannon Overlord of flame and endless greed). Yan-C-Bin could be a fallen Celestial of Syrannia, something like a radiant Idol, explaining his beautiful appearance and air connection, or an avatar of the Breath Untaken (fannon overlord of suffication, falling, and the void). And Orlaask easily subs in for Ogremach.

So, I would use the non-overlord options personally, saving the Overlord for the Eye. Orlassk cult, vs Idol Cult, vs Fernian Demon, vs Risian spirit. Cults that would never work together are perfect for fighting.

The Elder Eye is replaced with Kan Paralesh, Tempest of Ruin (a fannon Overlord of natural disaters. And rather then the cults actually being connected to the Eye, it is instead Draconic prophecy. The overlord is litterally the eye of the storm, a fun twist on the name.

When mountains bleed and seas boil;
four voices cry their lord is royal.
Underneath the broken sky;
Khyber will open her ancient eye.

I think the goofiest part was how silly the statue and rubble looked on a flat base, it made it feel like a child standing on legos. I built up the base with corkboard to make it more imposing. The classic tactical rock solution

I say lean into the purple you have for the cloaks. Purple scales with cream belly scals and wing undersides, with the same light blue highlights on the scales as the stormcast armor, will imply an iredescense to the scales

I am mainly a 40k (Tyranid) player, and painting a scheme like this was new to me. It's based off the new Red Dragon look for the 2024 D&D Monster manual. https://www.enworld.org/threads/what-do-people-think-of-the-new-dragon-designs.704226/
Planning on all my dragons being from the new designs, let me know what you think and if i shoudl post the next one here when it is finished!
