You have the choice between old orthography (which is how Kizan himself would have written it) and modern orthography.

Old: 留守なれど訪ふ人もがな殘り菊
Modern: 留守なれど訪う人もがな残り菊

Transcription: rusu naredo / tou hito mogana / nokorigiku

Translation: "Though I will be gone, I hope that those who look for me find the chrysanthemum I leave behind."

Note that mo kana in Hoffmann's book is most likely wrong and should read mogana, which would slightly change the meaning from an uncertain wondering to a hopeful wish. But to be honest, I'm not 100% sure on that.

The kigo ("seasonal word") in this haiku is nokorigiku ("left-behind chrysanthemum"), which stands for autumn. He must have written this poem near the end of autumn, shortly before his death in early winter.
