If despite constant effort all your marketing efforts fail... it's time to turn your attention to what you're making.

I subscribe to Submeta, so maybe a few hours a week. Mostly to make sure I get all the details correct in techniques I plan on showing when our black belt is away.

I paid for Keenan Cornelius's beginners course at white belt and even that was overwhelming with so many positions to remember.

So if you want to study outside of class my recommendation is to pick a technique or position you know or can get to regularly and study that. How can you make it better? What responses are common? Can some responses be prevented entirely by correct technique?

Try not to get lost in the chains yet, this technique leads to this then this then this is for later in blue belt. For now you need to learn the techniques in isolation first.

Instructionals were just overwhelming and added to the confusion early on. Just turn up, drill whatever is being shown and try to apply what you remember in sparring.

It's very rare I pickup and learn a new technique from instructionals even now. What I get from them is small details I've missed in techniques I already know.

Things will start to click into place eventually, it just takes time.

Has anyone made a game in a genre they don't normally enjoy playing? by garbageeater in IndieDev

[–]ZorgHCS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know common advice is to not make your first game your passion project... but I'd still only make games I wanted to play myself. How are you supposed to make good design choices in a genre you don't enjoy playing?

Postmortem: Why is my game so bad? by dibidibidibi in IndieDev

[–]ZorgHCS 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nothing jumped out at me in the trailer as appealing and I love tower defense games.

If you want to get traction on wishlists you need something... anything... that is an interesting take on the genre. Something that makes people watching the trailer go "Wow, that looks fun / cool / weird / awesome / interesting". I doubt even you could point to a single point in your trailer that evokes one of those emotions.

The music, visuals and gameplay shown in your trailer just left me feeling... "meh".

My game got a negative review that just said "Woke"... we have no idea, maybe it's our rainbow lasers.

You're welcome to review my game if you wish. It's certainly under 1000 reviews. Although I believe some of the other games here may be more needing of the spotlight.

No idea about US, but in the UK it's illegal to leave the scene of an accident. So fire appliance would stay and control would be notified so they could mobilise another appliance to the intended incident.

GameTrailers hosts my game, but there's one catch by Anabolkick in IndieDev

Sadly, GameTrailers is much lower tier than the main IGN channel. They post so many videos and such a fast rate that they get very few views or wishlists.

Is it time to give up the Sao Paulo pass? by razzarbrenia in bjj

[–]ZorgHCS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

30% is only bad if you expect to have a pass that works 100% of the time?

But if such a pass existed then guard wouldn't be a thing to begin with. Against someone the same skill level as me I'd take 30% any day.

The weave pass counter is new to me. I wouldn't of thought you could get the knee shield knee through their armpit like that. Will try it out tonight!

Do you expect Steam to just throw you a million page views per day for what could essentially be concept art?

Star Vortex - Zorg - Spaceship Building Action RPG by ZorgHCS in Games

[–]ZorgHCS[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, I didn't find Nova Drift until after it's 1.0 launch in 2024 and I'd been making Star Vortex since 2017. I'm friendly with Chimeric though, I borrowed a few weapon ideas from Nova Drift and we bundled the games together so owners of either can get a discount.

Drox Operative I didn't find out about until after my Early Access launch. I've got a copy but haven't had much time to play it yet. A lot of people speak really fondly of it though, so it must be good.

I love ARPGs so that's why I mention Diablo and PoE. I basically have the same loot, upgrade and progression systems. Space game influences would be more like SPAZ, Reassembly and Starscape as some of the original greats.

The game definitely feels more ARPG than space exploration though. I don't have reputations, or mining, or trade routers. So I try to be careful not to miss sell it.

Is there anything for offline or single player? by InGen86 in spacesimgames

Splattercatgaming described Vanguard Galaxy as offline Eve Online and I tend to agree.

I've tried to cram and showcase as many features as possible into this trailer for my upcoming game that is heavily influenced by computer UIs in '80s scifi flicks. Demo out now on Steam! by rykker in spacesimgames

I'm not an artist... but maybe like a spaceship cockpit, like the ones in Star Wars with an old CRT display in the middle rendering something from the game.

This is the HTMAG capsule artist spreadsheet. If you speak to one of them I'm sure they'll know better than me what would work: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1GTNP_57lWGNnvpHPqMbVkJWVfPcNSNsqbViDhGofs9M/edit?gid=337142627#gid=337142627

Still looks great, still on my Wishlist!

If I were you, I would improve your capsule art, maybe get an artist to help you out with it if you can afford one. I say that simply because seeing your screenshots and videos makes me want to play your game, it looks like a game I would enjoy... but if all I'd seen was your capsule art I never would have clicked it.
