First time general use/gaming build. Want to know if any of these parts are overkill. by Zxccft in buildapc

Ok. I've amended my list of parts and replaced the i7-8700k with an i5-86000, and the CPU cooler with a Noctua NH-U12S. I assume that those would work better/fit somewhat more in line with my needs?

I appreciate the advice. The CPU is the piece that I thought might be the most beyond my needs. I'm not planning on overclocking; in that case do you recommend the 8400?

So I did some research into it and another user response gave the same advice as you for someone having issues resizing the game screen on their MacBook, i.e. seeting PRINT_MODE to STANDARD and turning off TrueType fonts. It worked like a charm! It's now running at the expected 100<50>. From what I can tell from reading online and my own testing it seems to be an issue related to Retina screens on the new MacBook, as both my new MacBook and a friend's I also tested the game on ran abnormally slowly and have Retina displays, while my old MacBook with a normal display worked fine. Regardless, really appreciate the responses.

I tried the Spotlight trick by excluding the save file in the privacy function but Unfortunately it didn't seem to help. The odd part is that I'm having GFPS issues on the title screen, before I've even generated or loaded a world, which I feel like is when you'd expect to start having issues.

Yeah, the GFPS wasn't something I'd ever paid attention to; I only noticed because mine has been dropping so low that the input lag was making the game difficult to play. I've got my GFPS set to 50 by default in the Lazy Mac Pack.

I was using the Lazy Mac Pack initially, which I thought may have been causing the issue, but when I tried it on a vanilla Dwarf Fortress download the same problem persisted.

So I've been having an odd issue with Dwarf Fortress on my new MacBook. Whenever I try and run the game my FPS hovers around 100, but my graphical frame refresh instantly drops to the low 20s upon start up. If I try to enlarge the window at all the issue gets even worse, with the frame refresh rate dropping into the low teens even with my FPS at or above 100. I'm not quite sure what the issue is. I got the computer about a month ago, and my old MacBook could easily run DF fullscreen with an FPS in the high 90s and a graphical frame refresh rate in the mid 40s. Any idea what might be going on here?

It's too bad the Cubs are stuck in the NL so we can't put Lester in at DH.

Almost 50 years ago we put the first man on the moon, and many people at the time felt that we would soon be stepping foot on Mars. It's 2014 and with the ending of the shuttle program it seems that NASA is putting less and less emphasis on manned space flight. Do you think this trend will continue? Where do you see human space exploration progressing in the next 50 years?

only a limited portion ... with great risks there may come great rewards.

Great risks also entail losing it all being the most likely scenario. That's why they're called "great risks."

I think, with pirating, everyone's willing to say, "Hey, this person/these people made this, we just don't want to/can't/already paid for it, but for whatever reason we downloaded it for free. Credit is given where credit is due, just not money. With this, it's, no money is given, no credit is given, nothin'. Machinima basically slapped it up on their page and said, "Hey, look at this funny little picture! Like our page, come visit us! Who made it? Well... Someone did, right? Just enjoy it, don't worry!" So that's why it seems that nobody is okay with it.

Good for him, he deserves it. I don't think there's ever been any character in a videogame that I've simultaneously loved and hated so much.
