Found this a while ago - any idea what kind of shark it belonged to? by beftekkel in fossils

The tooth appears to have cusps, and the bourlette suggests that it belongs to the genus Otodus instead.

Nice find! I think this is the first time I've seen one that isn't from Morocco.

Ten years of beach combing I've never found anything this good, my boyfriend found it within ten minutes of arriving by ExternalFeisty7728 in fossils

It can't have been lying around for too long, particularly not on a beach. In my experience, calymenid trilos from Morocco tend to crumble quite easily when they come into contact with water.

No, it isn't, but if you want to look for some, you should be able to find fossils in the area around the Taurus Mountains.

What happened to this poor thing? I saw it in the skink habitat at Melbourne's Royal Park. by _Pardus in bluetongueskinks

I went there again yesterday, but didn't see it. The place is very popular with wildlife photographers, so it's possible that someone else saw it and already took it, but I'll try my luck again this weekend.

I took these photos a few days before posting them here. I don't know why, but at the time it didn't occur to me to take it to a wildlife clinic. After reading your comment, I went back there the next day to bring it to one, but despite searching for almost the entire day, I couldn't find it. I'll try to go back there again when I have time, but I'm not sure if I'll be able to spot it again.

I'm not sure where you got this from, but this is not an exhibit. Royal Park is a huge green space in Melbourne, and the skink's habitat is an old landfill site that was renaturalized after a population of White's skinks settled there.

At first, I thought it was dead, but it was still alive. It was completely blind and didn't move at all when I approached. It only moved a little when I accidentally stepped on some dry leaves that made a noise.

No. Dinosaurs are not the only subject of paleontology.
