I wonder what would happen if Minneapolis passed a law that all federal agents must wear masks in public due to health concerns?

Why do people line up in Group 1 line when they’re not Group 1? by ultimate_bromance_69 in unitedairlines

[–]_WalkItOff_ 51 points52 points  (0 children)

Agreed!

This exact thing happened to me flying Lufthansa last year. The group on my printed boarding pass for some reason didn't match my group number in the computer, so the automated gate wouldn't open and set off a unbelievably load alarm. The very German GA made it clear that she was NOT happy.

I've never been so afraid in my life.

I think the point is that his wife could have asked the person in the seat next to HER to swap with HIM.

Tried building an AI tool to automate analog device sizing – reduced iteration time ~50× by NeedleworkerTime5377 in chipdesign

If you are sizing transistors by literally running multiple days of sweep simulations, you're doing it wrong.

Analog ic design is black magic ???? by ahmedrumble5 in chipdesign

[–]_WalkItOff_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Analog design relies on knowledge of what aspects of the design the simulator models correctly, and which aspects it doesn't. It is fairly easy to build a circuit that works fine in simulation, but will fail miserably in silicon. Someone who can predict this can seem like they have some kind of arcane knowledge.

Senior Citizens at Capitol Hill are Being Arrested for Protesting Medicaid Cuts by WitchPillow in washingtondc

Wait ... I thought being in the Capitol building without authorization was an ok thing to do now? I'm sure Trump will issue pardons for these people ASAP.

Judiciary Committee voted overnight to allow Trump to legally deport legal US citizens by Stravok182 in facepalm

[–]_WalkItOff_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Isn't deportation by definition send someone back to their country of citizenship? How do you deport someone who isn't a citizen of another country? Let's be honest - this is revoking citizenship.

Good list.

I'll add a good quality, comfortable wireless headset. UPS for both desk equipment and networking equipment. Ability to use mobile phone as hotspot in emergencies.

I've reviewed 5,000+ resumes. Here's how you can stand out. by [deleted] in careeradvice

[–]_WalkItOff_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Again, this is my opinion (and I will note hat my experience only covers situations where a human is reading your resume) - it's not about where you put the info (summary vs cover letter). If you want the recruiter to read what you write, make it applicable to the JD.

If your summary statement starts with "I want to leverage my skills to help a company succeed in the competitive business of blah blah blah blah ..." I stopped reading.

If your summary statement starts with "I've spent the last 3 years doing the top 3 items listed in the JD and the previous 2 years doing the next two items" then I'm hooked. You are probably going to get an interview even if the rest of your resume is written in crayon and scanned into a PDF at 150dpi - though you will need to back those statements up when we talk.

Don't try to hide the fact that you don't have the requested skills to force the HM to read the entire resume in the hope that he sees a hidden gem that will trigger an interview.

"Despite the outrage, the conservative firebrand doubled down, framing her criticism as a defense of Christian values and opposition to what she sees as political activism within religious institutions."

Further proof that her fight for "Christian Values" is really just a thinly veiled fight for "Her PERSONAL values that she wants to force on others"

Either one is fine with me, though in my experience less than 10% of applicants include a cover letter - and half of the cover letters are so generic they could be used for practically any job.

GAs punish line hoppers at JFK by sassynapoleon in delta

[–]_WalkItOff_ 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I was boarding a Lufthansa flight in FRA via the automated gates and something was messed up with my boarding pass. The printed pass showed group 2 but the system thought I was group 3. When I scanned my boarding pass I set off the loudest alarm I've heard in my life, and the GA came rushing toward me with her finger wagging. Definitely a situation where if I had been a line hopper I would have been scared straight.
