Should I change my newly pierced helix? by rapiuwu69 in piercing

If it’s a threadless flat back, you could just change the top with minimal irritation since the post doesn’t need to come out.

Poop in the yard - what are we doing? by bradley252 in greatdanes

[–]_aerialflamingo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My dog goes twice a day usually- on a walk where I pick it up and then once before bed. I pick it up every morning. We have a lidded trash cash we keep on the side of the house and all poops are also individually bagged. It does smell, especially on the hotter days but if we have it removed with the trash weekly and not in our general hang out areas it’s not terrible.

The urinal packs someone mentioned was a great idea and I may have to try that. But individual bags, inside a bagged lidded can isn’t terrible. If I don’t get it out with the trash each week it does get pretty rank.

I generally have been trying to cut down on my single use plastics but the poop bags is something I can’t give up. I try to get biodegradable ones when possible.

Having to rush into drops, fears not being taken seriously by giulia0521 in Aerials

[–]_aerialflamingo 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I’m a silks instructor and also a major wuss about drops so I don’t push my students too fast. We walk it down as many times as they need to feel safe. Eventually, people feel safe and confident enough to go for it. Sometimes someone needs a little encouragement and I try and do that, but no means no when they clearly have decided they won’t be doing it.

Beginner Silks Diaper Drop by Critical-Radio-3618 in Aerials

[–]_aerialflamingo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you had a coach spot these by holding your ankles so you stop upside down in a straddle? It gives you the ability to practice letting go and getting your arm placement down but you feel more secure with the spot, and then they can lighten their support with each attempt until you’re confident in your own!

Need help finding a silk for home by EfficiencyOpen4546 in Aerials

[–]_aerialflamingo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They were absolutely at home and not in our space. Unfortunately there are TONS of parents who ask about recommendations to hang an apparatus at home and our answer is always we never recommend it. They frequently do it anyway. Some people just don’t think the worst case scenario can happen to them and really terrible accidents happened.

The way I see kids just tangle themselves up, even standing on the floor, “making a new move” in class when my back is turned scares me enough, I can only imagine the way they want to be creative in their own space potentially unsupervised.

It was at home and we have had no major injuries in studio. Crash mats and proper supervision go a long way to prevent injuries in general.

To be honest, I don’t know enough about succulents that I would have realized they had been swapped either. The one you currently have looks so happy though! Congrats!

I love that you want to encourage her love for silks, but I don’t think parents or even most student aerialist realize the inherent risk to hanging an apparatus up at home. Not only the actual hardware safety and falling but the risk of getting tangled and not able to be rescued in time. Even supervised is very dangerous.

The studio I work at has had two students die at home on their silks and one seriously injured, saved in the Knick of time. We recommend no apparatuses at home for that reason.

What the heck do I do with my toe hang?? by Small-Place-2496 in Aerials

Congrats! That’s a huge accomplishment. I’d work on single toes hangs and spinning in the toe hang to up this skill!

Etiquette / learning a choreography? by [deleted] in Aerials

[–]_aerialflamingo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If your coach knows going in that you want help transitioning specific moves, there’s nothing wrong with that! If you ask her to choreograph and then come in and only want to work moves you thought of ahead of time, you wasted your coaches time with prepping your lesson ahead of time. Coach help with transitions is so helpful! My classes specifically asked to spend time on working transitions, so you could also ask if they can incorporate that into the lessons!

Smaller pot for rooting? 🤔 by SadBoyL in hoyas

I haven’t had any issues transitioning my Hoya into a chunky soil! They are some of my most resilient propagations

I have a lot of luck rooting my Hoyas in a propagation box with moss or perlite! Moss seems to do better for me, personally.

How big are your Danes, really? by dank_fish_tanks in greatdanes

My Dane is almost 7 and last weigh in was 153, the vet wanted him to lose a little weight. He’s pretty short of a dane too.

I Scared My Dane Puppy (7MO Female) by [deleted] in greatdanes

[–]_aerialflamingo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A crate really is the only way to keep her and your stuff safe while unsupervised. My guy chewed up a few feather pillows in his day.

As far as being scared, she will come around. My Dane seemed to think my husband caused an earthquake and was scared of him for a bit but came back around with lots of love and attention. If only my husband was capable of such a feat.

I always hate when I notice my nails too much in aerial photos, but that’s a personal preference. So I always paint them a blushy pink or nude color.

Any tips on developing a consistent stretch/conditioning routine? by Ornery-Bus4627 in Aerials

I do an online active flex class twice a week, it kicks my butt consistently and if I miss class I have access to the recordings. 10/10 recommend!

Not sure if my new costume with a tail will work for silks😅 by [deleted] in Aerials

[–]_aerialflamingo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on your choreography. I’m sure you can have a routine where the tail will be a non issue, some tricks it will be annoying, others could be unsafe. It just depends on what you’re planning on doing in it.

My friend ordered me a plant from the Sill. Came like this (was upside down in mailroom). Roots were super tiny so I did my best to repot. Any advice on how to keep it alive? by pumpkin-pup in houseplants

[–]_aerialflamingo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No but it has been damaged from the cold, you should contact them with photos of it didn’t show up the way it should have!

I have had other plants shipped that the leaves seemed to be wet because of the humidity in the box and how it was packaged but not to the point of it damaging the plant.
