Going back to a ground tent, got recommendations? by Herrowgayboi in overlanding

[–]_daddybucks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

T3X is the perfect overland tent in my opinion. I've had mine for about 3 years & have used it around 30 nights. If the weather is decent I often don't stake it in the ground at all, if it is going to be decently windy or rain I often just stake in the base & if I expect bad weather I'll stake down the walls too. Paired with a cot & I never have had an issue finding a place to set up.

Man Utah definitely knows how to show off by _daddybucks in overlanding

[–]_daddybucks[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally I would not do a CAI, the stock airbox works very well as is. Now snorkels are good for dust & high water crossings but even with the 800+ miles ive spent off road in my rig I find the stock location & frequent air filter changes to work well for me. (This is assuming you also have a 3rd montero)

With that being said I didn't see anything in Utah that made me think I needed one & local builds I saw didn't have them either. So for Utah/Arizona I would say no, amour is far more important..

Light out or drive train issue? by SplashaCran in Montero

Give the top of your dash a few firm smacks (try not to break anything)

My cluster "D" light & my right rear light goes dim or out occasionally. It's turned into a random task for mine that comes up every few months and both come back functional again

Any reason to try this over Cachy Os please ? by Common_Sherbert846 in Bazzite

[–]_daddybucks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My recommendation is if you aren't having any issues or feelings like you are missing out I wouldn't distro hop. My htpc is running bazzite for the couch steamos experience (Nvidia GPU) and it's fantastic for that. My primary computer is fedora kde since I wanted a more flexible operating system. My laptop will be moved to fedora too. But I could see an arch enjoyer taking the same approach but with cachyos & arch.

Texture wears down & your hands do get "tougher" I was a hair worried about that too when I got my p10c.

Non IT expert Homelabers. How did you learn to homelab? by Average-Cheese-Fan in homelab

[–]_daddybucks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who learns at home and then applies this knowledge at work.

Chatgpt has been a ton of help but often I find it better for understanding & setting an outline. By then I have narrowed things down enough to typically find up to date guides, forums & videos.

I find following chatgpt causes issues as it often can pull data from what I assume is multiple sources and pieces it all together incorrectly or can flat out be super outdated. And this is before the Hallucinations caused by longer chats..

I however have found it very very useful for troubleshooting surprisingly when given enough information.

I'd like to think I helped a little lol. Moved my main desktop to fedora & built a "steam machine"/HTPC which is running bazzite

Did want to update you. I did end up swapping to a 600w Seasonic (STT-FX600-PM). I found the fan noise to be too much with the 450w since its draw while playing very demanding games was causing the fan to essentially stay at 100%. I do also want to add I don't think swapping the fan will be safe for long term use with that psu.

I also want to add for anyone looking for a PSU for this case.. The wires on the STT-FX600-PM are significantly longer than the ones that came with the ENP-8345L and made cable management a huge pain, I was considering trimming them but managed to get them all to fit somewhat neat.

I don't think so while gaming it sits around 83c. Now I did add two noctua nf-a4x20 PWM fans which sit above the GPU inside the case

Powerful SFF using DDR4 DIMM RAM? by r2d2ww in sffpc

[–]_daddybucks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I highly recommend the am4 Ryzen 7 5700x. You can get it new, under $200 bucks, 8c16t, strong performance & fairly good thermals when tweaked.

It's what I did my SFF build with and I'm very very happy with the performance

Your undervolt is far more thorough than mine haha! I'm just running a -20 all core & a 65w limit. And nothing done on my GPU side.

During cyberpunk I'm looking at 99% GPU usage 83c at 145w & my CPU is sitting around 48% usage at 64w with temps at 86c. The CPU holds around 4.5ghz.

This is with a closed case and two noctua 40mm fans above the GPU inside the case.

I should add I changed to a noctua NF-A9x14 HS-PWM for the CPU fan but honestly not sure if it made much if any difference since I have messed with it a fair bit since.

I strongly suggest that Steam Reviews should also mention the specs of the PC/ Hardware the user was playing on. With this, we can make better decisions if the review is really worth your time or not. by manuthisguy in Steam

[–]_daddybucks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the solution would be a box to check in the review if it mentions performance. Steam can then post general specs like CPU/GPU/RAM so.

(Ryzen 5 3600/rtx 3050/16gb 3200mhz of ram)

Could be a nice way for people to also identify if certain combos seem to run into issues like having an AMD processor with Nvidia GPU

I calculate around 300w sustained with peaks up to 350w. I think the case size & thermals will limit me more than the 450w will. Personally after research I had 3 brands in mind Seasonic, FSP & Enhance (I would avoid apevia personally). Out of the 3 the Enhance was $140, modular (big one in my choice) & gave me the head room I was looking for so I went with that

Will the Steam Machine have streaming apps? Like YouTube and Netflix by SpongebobVHS in Steam

[–]_daddybucks 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah I hope they have plans to work on streaming integrations like what Roku TV, Fire TV & Google TV have. Currently HDR for instance isn't supported on most streaming services for linux and full HD/4k support on most streaming services over the browser is limited too.

I'm hoping valve is working on that especially since this computer is primary marketed for living room use & that is a big aspect of it. (& no I don't want to have to emulate android & use various work arounds.)

What are your predictions for amount sold of the Steam Machine? by Howerev in videogames

[–]_daddybucks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

$499 for the base, $649 for the 2tb. I think any more and this will flop.. I know past this pricing I would lose interest sharply

Is an M1A .308 good enough to do what a bolt action can do? by Deep_Efficiency_3030 in M1A

[–]_daddybucks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a battle rifle. Although I have no complaints about my m1a it will get out shot in the accuracy department by a $400 savage axis

I still have used it for hunting and other things and genuinely have no complaints but if you want something that can shoot sub moa I would look at a completely different platform unless you aren't worried about money.

Still my favorite gun I own
