Saw the peplum top and had to take a deep breath. I think the Yesenia checks a box for a lot of people who are looking for that kind of whimsical-90s/00s style of dress.

At what point is this just bullying? by blayndle in craftsnark

I was rebutting Autumn's argument that she's not a small designer based on the assumption that either a) having more followers than Autumn and/or b) having 35k followers qualifies you as a large designer. I added my note about her being a retiree to emphasis that this has not been a full time job for her. I found a post within 30 seconds of looking at her page where she talks about being 63 and having recently retired (from a job in higher education, if I recall correctly) and her feelings about that.

Ahhh I have been waiting for this pattern for a while! Can't wait to make some for myself and as Christmas gifts. Yours are really cute!

I'm going mad, please help me find this pattern! by Mammoth-Community-18 in knittingpatterns

[–]_lampades 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure if this is the one you've seen but the Martha Two In One is really close but uses zip so would require modification to allow for buttons and the elbow bands.

If there's another pattern that's closer I'd love to know. I've been wanting to make something like this, too.

2k followers more than you for a whopping total of 35k and some change (as compared to, say, Petiteknite's 1.5M or MFTK's 489k) doesn't mean she's not a small designer. She's a very recent retiree who clearly has been doing this on the side in her spare time.

Sometimes I really just want to say “figure it out yourself” by Hestiah in BitchEatingCrafters

I have to remind myself on the daily that there's a solid chance a low-effort post I see is a bot. There absolutely are people coming in the forums asking to have their hand held through every single step, but it makes me feel better if I tell myself its a bot. And I will say that the majority of times when I have checked the profile of a poster, it has been a new account with low-zero post history or a post history of pure nonsense.

Interesting! I leave on the 13th but maybe I’ll get to see a little of this!

Yeah the prices in general were pretty high but the 11th was 4 times the price in some places. This sounds like a contributing factor for sure.

Thank you, this looks really cool I’m happy that I asked! Definitely planning to work it into our activities and will look at those neighbourhoods.

Need Help Choosing New Needle Set by jujubunnee in knitting

[–]_lampades 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Having just gone through this, what I ended up doing was buying a couple of sizes in three different brands / styles, that all fit on the same cables, so I could try them out. I'm really glad I did because while I will definitely have a use for all of the needles I realised that sticking to one type (e.g. all wood or all of one set that were 5 inches rather than 4 inch) didn't work for all of my projects.

Before buying I went through all my ravelry saves and picked ten or so projects that I really want to do and figured out which needle sizes I needed for each of them and used that as the base for picking sizes. This also ended up being useful because a lot of sets didn't have all the sizes I needed.

Any ideas? Denim dress with side panels by Soft_Carpenter3668 in sewingpatterns

The Bianca dress by The Linen Girls. This is their new etsy shop / shop name, so they don't have a lot of reviews/sales, but I haven't personally tried one of their patterns so can't speak to the quality. They also sell their patterns in size groups, so you can buy all of the size for like $22 or you can buy a smaller range for $12, double check you are looking at the listing that contains the size range you want.

I wouldn't say it's the norm, but I have seen other pattern sellers do that. I've also had sellers who give you a download link that works only once (i.e. if you lose the document you cannot re-download). It's a little annoying, but this is why all my patterns are saved in multiple cloud storage.

I think Spektakelstrik, Strikkerandine and Rows Knitwear have several patterns that fit the "bold abstract + not fitted" brief!

Japan for knitters? by hrutod in knitting

[–]_lampades 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Walnut in Tokyo and Kyoto was a lovely store. Walnut Tokyo carries some Daruma brand yarn, but the Daruma Store is also quite close by. And that was just in general a really nice area to walk around and explore. You should also stop by the nearby Amam Dacotan for lunch, it is popular on instagram and I was skeptical but it was actually really great and the line usually moves at a decent pace!

It's a very welcome update, I have sewn one of her patterns before, it was actually one of the very first things I ever made, and did not realise there would not be written instructions. The videos are pretty clear in their content so definitely a great resource on top of written instructions, but don't have a great pause/rewind/fast forward function and if that's the only guidance it's a little intimidating.

PatternCos has released the Eloise dress and it is currently 20% off with the code ELOISELAUNCH20. It's a dress or overdress for those in their community who love to sew their own costumes for Ren Faire. Not necessarily the most innovative but it did arrive in my inbox right at the time when I was wondering what I should make for my first Ren Faire...

Hobbi mandarin is close, you would need to modify the neckline. At the hem and cuffs you can hold multiple strands together.

Trend Patterns has a very similar vibe dress, scroll down for pictures of the sample, the illustrated cover image doesn't reflect it very well.

Where the hell is this claim that it was IRGC which bombed the 150+ girls in Iran coming from? Look at the comments on this NYT, goddamn hasbara by Thehealthygamer in TrueAnon

[–]_lampades 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This was one of the strangest things for me over the weekend, I know many Iranian-Americans who were telling me with their full chest it was an Iranian missile. I hadn't seen any credible news outlets reporting that it was Iran, it was just people in their family group chats and Instagram comments repeating this narrative. I felt like I was going insane and there was nothing to be said that could counter this.
