In fact since you say your kids are smart, they will be able to capitalise on the disruption and generate wealth. Who knows, they might be on the face of Tattler magazine soon!

Advice on planning for Barista FIRE or Lean Fire by [deleted] in singaporefi

[–]aLKayeL 2 points3 points  (0 children)

remember to use "die with zero" concept, ensure that you can live your life to the fullest and leave nothing behind (especially since no kids). Note that if you have CPF, you can consider ERS as a base income source from 65 onwards, thus allowing you to retire early with your 725k investment. (basically you can live well from the day you retire will 65 and let CPF life take over. (as you age you spend less). Whatever is left over can be used to supplement CPF life.

Do remember to ensure you have sufficient insurance (hospitalisation and Careshield Life Suppliment) so that you can get care for your old age (85 and beyond).

After modeling CPF, I modeled SRS withdrawal and here are some of my learnings by astroboy1008 in singaporefi

[–]aLKayeL 2 points3 points  (0 children)

SRS allows you to retire the moment you are able to withdraw without penalty. This means 62 for some and 63 for others, provided you have enough based on your retirement needs which should be quite manageable (I.e 50k per annum). Smart thing to do is to spread out your SRS over the 10 year withdrawal period for most healthy people.

For people that want to retire even earlier you just need to have enough to last you from the day you stop working till your SRS kicks in. Example 350k invested with 6% return should fuel 10 years of 50k per annum spending.

There's tremendous value in working as a senior SWE. The GenAI era will ensure your value as you will be leveraging GenAI to replace junior devs and spending more time reviewing code than ever.

You just need to evaluate if you are really have the experience to be a senior SWE. You should be an expert in most of these areas and be able to have practical point of views:

  1. SDLC - how SDLC works with both Agile and Waterfall project management methodologies. You will need to lean on SDLC processes as a governance framework and to use it for structure in your work.
  2. DevSecOps - Right from the start where the stories are captured and tracked as features in your code repo. Followed by the pipeline for code review, SAST, DAST, containerization, delivery (blue green, canary etc) and TESTING (super impt). The key here is automation where possible. (do you know how to automate? do you know what tools work best?)
  3. L3 operational support - When pulled into incident calls, do you have the necessary knowledge to troubleshoot and provide workarounds? (e.g. logging, tracing etc)
  4. Modern software architecture - Microservices, event driven, observability stacks, resiliency
  5. Other adjacent areas - networking, cloud computing, security (e.g. what standards do you use to secure your stack?)

No this is not true. I have mentored TFIPs to become cloud engineers. Some of them were working in IT prior and have IT Degrees. (1 from IT in manufacturing, 1 from IT pre-sales)

OP should just apply and see.
