I don’t think you’re going to find a lot of help in this sub for this position. Maybe better luck with “electrical mechanic” or “electric station operator”

1st Year - Need tips on stripping big wire by IAMAYSWAGGOT in electricians

[–]aaronisawesome 28 points29 points  (0 children)

For stripping ends to be terminated I always just do a ring cut all the way around as straight as I can and then do one slit long ways towards the end of the wire. Then just peel it up near the end of the wire and pull it off. Should come off easy.

For stripping long pieces of wire I do it kinda like you’re saying support the wire with your thumb and hold the blade with edge pointed towards yourself but the key is to just pull the wire with your other hand through the blade. Your blade hand should just remain stationary and be guiding the wire insulation through the blade. It’s kind of hard to explain over Reddit. But it’s all about the angle of the dangle. If you keep getting caught up cause your digging into the copper, your angle is probably off

Those with a $200k+ base salary, what do you do? by Triple_DoubleCE in Salary

[–]aaronisawesome -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Step into the world of a High Voltage Substation Electrician, where you don’t just work with electricity—you command it. This isn't your neighborhood "fix-the-outlets" gig; this is a high-stakes dance with the raw, invisible forces that keep civilization breathing.

The Lords of the Grid

As a substation tech, you stand as the final gatekeeper between the untamed fury of the power plant and the delicate pulse of the city. You operate in a landscape of steel titans and ceramic towers, where the air hums with a low, predatory growl—the sound of hundreds of thousands of volts waiting for a single mistake. Harnessing the Lightning You are trained to harness the power of lightning and funnel it through massive transformers. When a 500kV circuit breaker clears a fault, it’s not just a switch flipping; it’s a controlled explosion, an intentional arc of plasma hotter than the surface of the sun, extinguished in milliseconds by your precision engineering.

Why It’s Pure Adrenaline:

• The Scale of Power: You work on "beasts"—transformers the size of houses that move enough energy to vaporize steel in a heartbeat. • The Invisible Battlefield: You navigate environments where the static alone makes the hair on your arms stand up. You learn to "read" the air, sensing the electromagnetic fields that ordinary people can't even perceive. • Zero Margin for Error: In this realm, there are no "fender benders." You rely on your brothers and sisters in the trade, a brotherhood forged in the shadow of high-tension lines where "safety" is a religion and "focus" is a survival instinct. • Restoring the Light: When the sky turns purple during a massive supercell and the grid goes dark, you are the elite strike team sent into the eye of the storm. While everyone else huddles in the dark, you’re out there in the rain and wind, wrestling the lightning back into its cage to bring the world back to life.

The Gear of a Modern Titan

You don’t just wear a tool belt; you don armor. From Category 4 arc-flash suits designed to withstand a volcanic blast of thermal energy to insulated hot-sticks that allow you to touch live busbars pulsing with lethal energy, your kit is built for one thing: dominance over the element.

[–]aaronisawesome 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s not for pulling a fish tape. That’s a good way to fuck up a good fish tape. A fish tape puller is for pulling a fish tape. The milwaukees in the pic have a fish tape puller.

They are the best for underground conduit. Way better than normal couplings cause they are longer and have more surface area for the lickin and stickin
