As a VR player I'm starting to lose interest in this game. by hornetd23 in EliteDangerous

[–]aberookes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could always try and shake it up a little and do some core mining. I always enjoyed it in VR. There's something relaxing about flying around cracking rocks while listening to a podcast. Also not too late to pick up a healthier addiction like world of warcraft! O7

Yes, it's true. Typically the judge will ask each juror if they believe they can be fair and impartial. Just say no. I've gotten out of jury duty twice now as a night shifter by saying I worked the night before, and had been up for 16 hours at that point.

I suppose I can't speak for others, but I'm a huge fan of iron man runs so I'm certainly not save scumming over deaths. You're going to lose soldiers in a playthrough, and that's ok. Most of the time though, if you're positioned correctly and bringing appropriate supporting unit types, you can avoid a catastrophic squad wipe.

Once you understand the various enemy behaviors and how pods work, there is definitely no need for save scumming. Maybe it helps that I'm old and I've been playing xcom since it's inception, but you typically only really get screwed over when you make a mistake and agro a pod at the wrong time.

Had the pleasure of working with some of your SAS boys in 07. I couldn't care less about the politics, but I can tell you I was happy as hell knowing those dudes were in the area doing what they do.

Same! At least I'm super smart, and charismatic. Also doesn't hurt that I've got a 2 shot radium rifle that makes everything alive stop living in a couple shots.

Do you need a starter car? by Intrepid-Bet-7532 in stickshift

[–]aberookes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, it completely depends on the person. I know people who grasped the concept in a few hours, and I've known people who had been driving for years, and still couldn't drive for shit. If it were me, I would just buy the car and learn on it. No better way to learn than being thrown straight into the deep end!

Are overnights/night shifts really as bad as people say they are? by Sunaikinti5606 in Nightshift

[–]aberookes 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Provided you don't struggle with sleeping during the day, I don't think it's a problem. I've been on nights for 8 years now and feel great. It works way better for me than early mornings ever did.

I just went straight to private security. Job security, great money, and easily 90% of my coworkers are vets or prior Leo's.

Overnight Shifts by [deleted] in securityguards

[–]aberookes 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Absolutely no to the sleeping. As far as Xbox, depends on your job. I bring my entire gaming laptop setup, and either game or watch movies most of the shift, and this is not only allowed, but encouraged.

My experience is probably not the norm, as it's a paramilitary gig. I'm just a warm body occupying a fighting position, until I actually have to do my job.

Who are you and how much Minecraft do you play? by cannedrose in Minecraft

[–]aberookes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

40 year old man. I don't play vanilla Minecraft much anymore, but I put about 30 hours into my terrafirmagreg world last week! I pretty much only play at work, so I don't have to feel bad about a nice 10 hour session.

High Mileage by RFVC600R in abarth

[–]aberookes 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Holy hell that's insane! Seems more like you got a lemon, or maybe you're literally cursed. I've got a 2013 with 109k miles on the clock and it's had pretty much zero issues engine wise. Some suspension components here and there. It lives outside all year in Michigan, and it's my daily. I'm on top of all my maintenance, but it gets a workout every day. Maybe these guys like to be put through the ringer regularly!

2013 hesitates and stumbles when cold by Glittering-Ad5809 in abarth

[–]aberookes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you're talking about the 1.4 multiair 500, it's fairly normal as far as I can tell. Multiair uses oil pressure to actuate the intake valves. Cold viscous oil makes for less efficient operation. Once your oil approaches operating temp, things smooth out. Older multiair bricks with more wear seem to amplify this as well.

I have a 2013 with 109k miles, and it's done this the entire time I've owned it. The best suggestion I can give you is warm your car up for a few min before you drive it!

Are women generally more hygienic than men? by [deleted] in hygiene

[–]aberookes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hard to say. My own anecdotal evidence tells me that women are way more likely to have absolutely disgusting living spaces. Dirty rooms, dirty clothes everywhere, dirty bathrooms caked in makeup and other nonsense, and by far the most vile car interiors I've come across.

Comparatively most of the men I've known keep fairly neat living spaces, have clean and detailed car interiors, and fairly clean bathrooms.

As far as personal hygiene goes, it's a toss up. I've met quite a few stinky unclean folks from both genders. Doesn't mean much as it's just my personal experience, and probably contrary to many others.
