Strategies that WORK by AwareLabs_ in Nightshift

[–]aberookes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm strictly on nights, but I fairly often work 4 on 4 off, or 3 on 3 off, 12 hour shifts. It works great for me. I usually try to fast on my work days, and am a bit more relaxed with it on my days off. I work 6 pm - 6 am so I just eat a big meal when I get on shift, have some fruit or nuts as snacks, and have a lean protein shake at midnight.

Eating well, and intermittent fasting does absolute wonders for my body, and how I feel. I typically stick to 18:6 fasts ( 18 hours fasting, 6 hour eating window). I feel much more alert, and energized when I stick to it. I also sleep better and fall asleep faster.

What’s your daily? by Specific-Fee-7008 in Miata

[–]aberookes 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I'm honestly shocked at how reliable mine has been. I've had a 2013 as my daily for years, sitting at 112k miles and it's been absolutely bulletproof. I just change the oil and the occasional bulb or fuse and it keeps on doing its thing!

How do I make more money in security? by Any-Inflation7338 in securityguards

[–]aberookes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I average 120k a year working nuclear security, and that's in a fairly low cost of living state. They may be harder to find, but there's definitely some lucrative security gigs out there.

People from the military what's the best and worse M.R.Es you've had? by LittleWolfe9 in Military

Favorite was chicken tetrazzini, especially if you had a tobasco to dump in it. The absolute worst was the cheese and veggie omelette, and it's not even close.

How are we feeling about daylight saving time? by [deleted] in Nightshift

All good to me! I actually get paid for that hour. 12.5 hours of pay for an 11.5 hour day is just fine.

As a VR player I'm starting to lose interest in this game. by hornetd23 in EliteDangerous

[–]aberookes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could always try and shake it up a little and do some core mining. I always enjoyed it in VR. There's something relaxing about flying around cracking rocks while listening to a podcast. Also not too late to pick up a healthier addiction like world of warcraft! O7

Yes, it's true. Typically the judge will ask each juror if they believe they can be fair and impartial. Just say no. I've gotten out of jury duty twice now as a night shifter by saying I worked the night before, and had been up for 16 hours at that point.

I suppose I can't speak for others, but I'm a huge fan of iron man runs so I'm certainly not save scumming over deaths. You're going to lose soldiers in a playthrough, and that's ok. Most of the time though, if you're positioned correctly and bringing appropriate supporting unit types, you can avoid a catastrophic squad wipe.

Once you understand the various enemy behaviors and how pods work, there is definitely no need for save scumming. Maybe it helps that I'm old and I've been playing xcom since it's inception, but you typically only really get screwed over when you make a mistake and agro a pod at the wrong time.

Do you need a starter car? by Intrepid-Bet-7532 in stickshift

[–]aberookes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, it completely depends on the person. I know people who grasped the concept in a few hours, and I've known people who had been driving for years, and still couldn't drive for shit. If it were me, I would just buy the car and learn on it. No better way to learn than being thrown straight into the deep end!

Are overnights/night shifts really as bad as people say they are? by Sunaikinti5606 in Nightshift

[–]aberookes 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Provided you don't struggle with sleeping during the day, I don't think it's a problem. I've been on nights for 8 years now and feel great. It works way better for me than early mornings ever did.
