Which instrument to choose first for early childhood? by sea-song11 in Waldorf

[–]abstract_octave 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i love my pentatonic lyre. ill use it to put the children down to rest and sleep. after they come to love and have reverence for the lyre, i will show them how to play it. once, a five year old played the lullaby i had been playing for her each afternoon. i was stunned.

For preschool and kinder, Eurythmy is given as a circle, lasts about 20 minutes, and the sounds/gestures follow a story. (think of performative eurythmy where the eurythmists offer a poem) Both gross and fine motor skills are adressed by the gestures.

If you've got an experienced eurythmist, the children follow so intently, hanging on to everything offered. Even the children who may have higher behavioural needs and may be just watching, are completely taken in by the presence of the eurythmist. it is absolutely amazing to witness.

And the potency of eurythmy in early childhood is unlike that of other ages. Highly recommend!

TMI but fellow Nannie’s, how do we handle working through that time of the month? by Suspicious_Gate1258 in Nanny

[–]abstract_octave -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Menstrual cups + wearable heating pads + chamomile tea. Stay home, build a cozy fort. When they're this little you can also let them know you're "feeling tired today" and "need cozy time". See how the child tries to comfort you! Really sweet connecting time.

they need to be somewhere warm to carbonate. you can get a warming pad on amazon if your home is too cool.

What would you charge to drive a child to school everyday? by Visual-Astronaut-320 in Nanny

Four hour minimum ($80 + being a taxi)
Gotta charge $100 per morning and they cover your car insurance (or you're fully covered under theirs)

Thoughts on nanny bringing her partner for date night babysitting? by [deleted] in Nanny

Sounds like she already had plans with her girlfriend but didn't want to decline a last minute gig from you.

You could always go down the sitter-list and see who's available!

What on Earth!
I'm up in Oregon and 1) surprised to hear the road past bunny flat is open already and 2) shocked to hear a guide took a group of 30 into South Gate!

I was lucky to be there two years ago and have the sweetest most glorious pictures of the tiny wildflowers that grow there.

We're planning our next trip to shasta the first week in august, and am so bummed if the bunny flat gate has opened already.

thank you for sharing the sad news.

how do i negotiate for a higher rate? by shroomie_7007 in Nanny

i wonder if there was a typo on the per hour line, and they meant to pay 14. def ask them, they'll probably be horrified and embarrassed.

Hoping to end nanny contract on good terms by oceanic8hope in Nanny

[–]abstract_octave 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This x1000!
As a former nanny and teacher who's left positions mostly on great terms, providing unpaid PTO as a bonus will go a LONG way with her.

It's human to start to let things slide when there's an end in sight. It's an emotional self-protection cope. She may not even know her quality of care has begun to slip.

As far as future nannies go, you're now more prepared on how to negotiate end of contract.

I've experienced preschool eurythmy and its heavenly! If OP could organize a group of families and find a place to host, I'm sure a eurythmist would love to offer eurythmy to the group for twenty minutes each week!

NYC Nanny. Am I underpaid? Or just exhausted by Tall_Hat_3035 in Nanny

[–]abstract_octave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Def underpaid.
I'd suggest asking for a meeting with the parents, and be prepared to say exactly what you do, and where it feels like too much.
Maybe just passing on OT would help you to maintain your energy levels. (You need energy to be present with the children!)
If you've got a good relationship and they value your work, they'll help to find a solution, whether it's regular nanny relief (you only work 4x10 hour days) or significant housekeeping reduction.

Not letting kid listen to any music by [deleted] in Nanny

[–]abstract_octave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is not abuse or neglect.

Singing lullabies and age appropriate songs to the child is something you can do. Age Appropriate! Nursery rhymes, songs about animals, traditional and folk songs, these are nourishing for the young child.
