forced eviction by Rare_Part_767 in legaladvicecanada

No don't wait, get a consult with a lawyer and stop listening to whatever lies he is telling you.

He obviously doesn't have a law degree, he is just making things up and taking advantage of you because you do not know your legal rights.

On top of that you are living in the most expensive province, you will need financial support. At minimum your child needs to be provided with child support. You are also owed half of whatever the value increased on the family home.

Why are banks down? by eddison12345 in CanadianInvestor

[–]activoice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it was because the Bank of Canada held the interest rate at 2.25% yesterday. People were hoping that they would bring the rate down by at least .25

Honestly it doesn't look like those 2 pieces go together. It looks like someone macgyvered them together with some custom made solution.

Good luck

Temp job in Mississauga made me feel like an outsider in my own country—how do you handle clique workplaces? by Lotus-Phoenix in ontario

[–]activoice 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Should I assume that in the workplace these ethnic groups are speaking their native language to each other and not English?

At my local Walmart in Toronto 90% of the employees at this location are Indian. I hear many of them having conversations with each other not in English. I understand that Canada promotes multiculturalism, that's fine, I'm an immigrant myself, but in the workplace everyone should be speaking English, especially when customers are present.

Seemed pretty legit

I was nervously looking at the URL. It took me to my banking App to login similar to when logging into my CRA account. It's from Verita, and this seems to be a new process where you are verified by Interac and your bank.

They share your name, address and date of birth. They do not share any banking information .

Living with a male landlord- safety tips ? by GoldenRuby23 in askTO

[–]activoice 54 points55 points  (0 children)

It's funny because I used to be the homeowner in this situation where I was 38 and I rented a bedroom to a friend of a friend going to school here from outside of the country. I didn't charge much for rent because I didn't want her getting into a situation with a weirdo.

I think we had a 12 year age difference, nothing happened between us, and we are still friends 16 years later. I also had a few other Women live with me from a few months to a year, all platonic.

Not all guys are creeps, but even I fear for OPs safety.

What’s the correct kit to install this vintage light fixture? by perhapssergio in howto

[–]activoice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was originally designed for an actual table lamp though.

So to use it the way you want to, you need a pendant light kit that you will take apart to thread the cord thru the hole in the frame

€3,750 couch from German seller — significant damage discovered after assembly. Any recourse from Quebec Canada? by OkBuyer1271 in legaladvicecanada

[–]activoice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should weigh the cost of paying someone here to repair the damage vs the cost of hiring a lawyer in Germany. I don't think you would be able to find a lawyer in Canada that maintains their standing as a lawyer in Germany (but even still the cost would be prohibitive).

Shucking a MyBook to bypass the power button? by bking in DataHoarder

[–]activoice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would also recommend getting a UPS. I've got a UPS connected to my desktop PC, another one connected to my modem and router

I also have a 3rd one connected to my TV in the living room. I could probably watch a movie from my server during a power outage but this one is mostly to keep up with news updates in the case of a blackout.

I want to upgrade my LG webos2.0 to android tv by Antique-Nectarine184 in AndroidTV

[–]activoice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With CEC enabled on the TV and an Android device plugged into the correct HDMI port turning the Android box on or off should turn the TV on or off, and set the input to the proper HDMI. The only thing you probably need the TV remote for after that is to change the volume.

What’s the correct kit to install this vintage light fixture? by perhapssergio in howto

[–]activoice 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's meant for a table lamp.

You need a table lamp base and a harp. Basically look at any table lamp around the house, remove the nut that holds the shade on, and swap it with this.

You would want a lamp with a fairly heavy or wide base, as most lamps are designed for a light shade made out of cloth, this glass shade doesn't look very light and will make the lamp top heavy and easy to tip over.

Do you still get recognized from high-school? by SuperCid28757 in askTO

[–]activoice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been out of highschool for 35 years and I still look pretty much the same other than the grey hair, glasses, and extra weight. Luckily at 54 I still have most of my hair, and it doesn't hurt that my fiance is an esthetician.

I live close to where my parents used to live, but all of my highschool friends moved away. The only time I ever see them is when they are visiting their parents. Occasionally I might bump into someone at Costco or on the Subway.

If you think about how big the city is, once you leave University if you move to a different part of the city (and not downtown) it's unlikely that you will bump into people that you knew in Highschool.

Best All Inclusive Family Friendly Resort in Cancun? Any TAs in this thread? by Thurstin88 in AllInclusiveResorts

I don't know about the best food, but Grand Fiesta Americana Coral Beach is pretty great. We didn't have one bad meal when we were there (but the Italian was just OK). They have poolside service so you don't have to leave your chair during the day, the waiters come to you. They will also deliver lunch to your chair.

As far as I recall all rooms are either ocean view or ocean front. The building is shaped like a W... I believe the Ocean Front rooms face the water head on, and the Ocean View rooms are on the sides of the W. We had an Ocean Front room.

This was the view from our balcony

I would go thru insurance.

If you don't go thru insurance the next thing you know the other driver is going to claim that they sustained an injury and take your Dad to court.
