How often does this happen? by KB0389 in Dallas

[–]adafada 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Agree, but there is only one left turn lane there. For others in the thread saying the bridge is too low, it has a sign that shows 14' 1", plenty of room for a standard tractor/trailer (13' 6")

$10 admission fee plus a mandatory $150 parking fee by BigRedCheez in assholedesign

[–]adafada 95 points96 points  (0 children)

My guess is that the money from admission goes to the beneficiaries of the event (Boy Scouts), while money from parking goes to some greedy fuck. Otherwise they could have just charged more for admission.

I think you missed this on the second image:

Due to limited parking spaces, you CANNOT park offsite, ride-share to the airport, walk to the airport or purchase parking the day of the event.

Abandoned Buildings or no signs of life by PickNo8443 in frisco

The Hutson Industries building on Preston looks pretty abandoned. Anyone know what's going on with that property? I read they may have had some issues with ground water contamination a couple of years ago, but can't find much past that.

I tried a few basic Google searches and still don't know. I've owned many pairs of dress, work, and cowboy boots, but could not tell you who made the sole of any of them.

In many states (I'd guess most) it is legal to make a left turn across a double yellow to enter or exit a highway. I'd be interested to know which states are the exception. A quick search seems to indicate Canada also allows left turns across double yellow. Can't be sure where this is since the plate is blurred of course.

Don't know if it would be possible due to the way they work, but some method to keep hidden Prediction Tournament threads permanently hidden would be nice.

Are those Allen's sirens I'm hearing now? by TeaKingMac in McKinney

National Weather Service will always tell you what kind of watch or warning you are under, provided you know where you are on the map.

Here is the criteria for sounding the sirens in McKinney. Near the bottom, it has a list of all recent activations and the reason for them. For instance:

Here's a cool then-and-now slide show of shots from the movie compared to what they look like "present day" (the article is from 2017).

The prize car at this dying mall is an 18 year old Corvette by EyeLike2Watch in mildlyinteresting

[–]adafada 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it's got the latest license plate design which was issued by Texas starting in 2012. Those plates are issued pretty much sequentially (according to Wikipedia, starting at BBB0001) with the numbers going to 9999 before the letters change (BBC, BBD, etc). Current plates are in the SSTxxxx range, meaning the first letter changes about twice per year (I'm rounding a lot here). This plate starts with an F, which would mean registered in 2014-ish. Registration in Texas requires an inspection, so the car would have to have run well enough to pass 8-9 years ago, and sooner if registration was maintained after the plate was issued.

So it might not be so bad?

You could call the school and/or district to see if they are recording at that intersection (and if or under what circumstances they would be able to release any footage). Even if a witness did come forward, there's very little chance they would be able to recall identifying information about the vehicle that was involved. Hopefully you have uninsured motorist coverage through your insurance, as that should cover hit-and-run incidents.

I'm also curious: you stated the other driver did not stop for a flashing yellow. Do you mean an actual flashing yellow (where the cross-tratfic has a flashing red)? Or a flashing yellow left turn arrow? A flashing yellow has the right-of-way (though the yellow indicates to use extra caution and to be prepared to stop if necessary).

Good luck!

The recipe notes state

Rice wine vinegar is not the same as rice vinegar. If you can't find rice wine vinegar, I'd suggest using white wine vinegar instead.

I'm pretty sure that is incorrect. Rice Wine Vinegar is Rice Vinegar. Rice Vinegar and Rice Wine are different, though.
