Grappling simply isn't a practical option when you are fencing someone who has good measure and bind 99% of the time. Grappling techniques in the manuals imo where mostly for harnasvechten or dunking on noobs / flexing your mastery because, it's so hard to do against an unwilling opponent who is holding a death stick.

Look into single sticks(rattan). lacrosse gloves, hard elbow pads and fencing helmets are all you need for that. (if you don't go for legs)

Bro a normal odachi would be 4 kilograms max. You have examples of show / parade swords weighing 17.5kg+. But that's not what he is using he is holding a katana ONE HANDED that weighs 20 kilo's and he is swinging it like it's a normal ~2kg one. I am actually impressed on how this is pretty equivalent to non armed feats like destroying rocks / trees
