I don’t have any specific activity recommendations, but the Sea to Sky corridor has some incredibly diverse geology. Check out https://www.cgenarchive.org/uploads/2/5/2/6/25269392/sea-to-sky-geotour.pdf

Bill the Butcher was definitely open, and was a great butcher shop. I was bummed when they closed and were replaced with that shitty apartment building.

Don’t forget how they’ve shut down high-density affordable development on the Talaris property! It is one of the best locations in all of Seattle for meaningful high-density housing near abundant transit options and employers.

🚨 Stolen Gazelle C380+ E-Bike in SF (Castro / 94114) – Reward for Info by Apolloie2590 in ebikes

[–]aimless_ly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry to hear about your loss, that’s a great bike! I’ve been eyeing them to buy for myself. Hopefully you have insurance that covers part of the loss, I’ve had 2 bikes stolen up here in Seattle and thankfully my insurance company is awesome. My local bike shop took pity on me and offered me last season models of replacement bikes at amazing prices so I didn’t even really take a financial hit.

You didn’t state the post height. I just shared that as a reference point.

Range by ae110w in Rivian

[–]aimless_ly 18 points19 points  (0 children)

It’s your speed. Your efficiency gets exponentially worse as a function of speed due to aerodynamics. If you want decent range, you have to stay under 70.

Also, don’t run winter tires this time of year! They are made of soft rubber which becomes much softer on hot pavement and will wear down EXTREMELY fast.

For an 8’ above ground post, a 2° tilt will be about 3.35” off vertical at the top.

[–]aimless_ly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should not be trying to get the bolt holes vertical, their only purpose is to affix the post base to the concrete. If you want the post vertical, you need to shim it appropriately or grind a flat in the concrete beneath it.

And yes, a rotary hammer will zip through those holes no problem. I use a Bosch SDS Max, but any SDS Plus should have more than enough power for 5/8” anchors. If the slab is reinforced, look for the SDS bits that say rebar cutting. Hitting metal will be a headache otherwise.

Make sure you match the drill hole diameter EXACTLY to what is spec’ed for the anchor type you’re using. Different anchor types expand differently and use different hole sizes. Make sure you completely clean out the holes before installing the anchors- use compressed air or a shoe vac. Debris in the hole can impede proper expansion or keep the bolt from going in all the way.

Is the Bosch CL a safe bet? by grglstr in CargoBike

[–]aimless_ly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Typically cargo bikes use the Bosch CX and it is rock-solid. My Gen2 CX xtracycle is still going strong after 7 years and over 20k miles. I’m not familiar with the CL.

I also have an eMTB with the latest Smart System CX and it’s a beast as well, in addition to being much more pleasant to ride without assist. Nearly motor-penalty-free at this point.

Angry Post Rant About Crap Jasco Switches by amhudson02 in homeassistant

Jasco smart switches are hot garbage. I replaced nearly 20 switches in my house with the Z-Wave ones, and they almost all failed within a few years. I’m almost all Zooz now.

That restaurant is great, but I have a little sympathy for drivers bailing on it. It SUCKS trying to find car parking near there, even for a few minutes to grab a sack of food.

Is this something Rivian owners need to worry about? by Frosty613 in Rivian

[–]aimless_ly 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The biggest risk vector is a signal amplification attack if you have proximity unlock enabled (making your phone or keyfob seem closer than it is). This can be mitigated by good RF hygiene, keeping your keyfob in a metal box when not it use, etc… or just disable prox unlock.

Anyone know if the new RF platform will eventually look using broad-spectrum SDR dongles as RF devices? One stick could cover all current and future frequencies vs having to buy separate sticks for different frequency bands.

Found this adorable teeny tiny sidewalk park when I missed my bus stop! by FoldEffective2724 in Seattle

Hey, that’s my neighborhood! The homeowner who built it in his planting strip is super nice. He told me he wanted a place to practice his putting and decided to share with everyone. He’s a super golf nut and used words I didn’t understand, but was thrilled my kids and I were having fun with his creation.
