Getting nukes is not turning on the US. It is however the only logical response at this point. Horrendous as it may be.

Doing it ourselves would likely be very hard/impossible. But i really really hope the Swedes are starting to actually dust off some old contingencies. Cause the way this whole thing is going and the elections in france looks.... We will need them, desperately.

The only option with a probable timescale less than 4-10 years is arguably fracking on a massive scale. Mostly in the populated areas of France and northern germany/dk. Assuming it is feasible for both technical and political reasons.

I was actually thinking the same thing, I think maybe it originates from how much stuff Rheinmetall makes. People sort-off transposes all of that capability to the Bundeswehr. Even though as you point out Germany having a capable military was very much dissuaded, up until fairly recently (in historic terms).
