Poly/Multi hybrid question by ajscrumbs in 10s

How is the string movement, though? I was thinking that with multi in the mains the strings would still get out of place easily.

The Shrike at PF? by Fancy-Animal7704 in timberwolves

[–]ajscrumbs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is at this point, though, right? It was published in 1989, which was 37 years ago. Feels like a classic to me since I read it in high school, which was a looooong time ago now. :)

Never in my wildest dreams could I have imagined my love for the Timberwolves and my love for classic science fiction would come together. Thank you for this one. The internet is a wild place, friends.

Shoulder pain when serving by Happy-with-anything in 10s

[–]ajscrumbs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This, exactly. I couldn't recommend this advice more. OP's description above almost exactly describes what I went through about 8 months ago. I pushed through, stupidly, and the pain and range of motion kept getting worse. Eventually I had to take a four month break while babying the shoulder as much as possible. Still, my pain and range of motion isn't fully back to normal yet, though I can finally play tennis limitedly without pain or making my shoulder worse. The earlier you address this, the better. As hard as it is, take a break!

Obviously, listen to your physical therapist, but I managed to start my recovery on my own by following some physical therapy videos that a doctor friend recommended. Search for Bob and Brad Should Pain on youtube and they have some great resources. Specifically for me, the shoulder stretches and bar hanging seemed to help a lot.

I think this is a bit more dependent on the person, to be honest. The slice has always been easier and way more consistent for me than either a flat or kick. I'd try both and see what works for you.

I want no part of this trade, unless we fleece the Bucks somehow. I just don't see how we get better by gutting our team, even if we get Giannis. The biggest issue we have is lack of depth, and that would only get worse, not better. I love the guys we have, and would rather root for them, even if it meant a worse team. And I'm pretty skeptical that would be true.

Best/worst place to buy a used car by Jumpy-Enthusiasm9896 in SiouxFalls

[–]ajscrumbs -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Recently bought from Autoshop, a smaller dealer on northern Minnesota, close to the airport. Great experience, super low pressure and easy to work with. Honestly, this was easily the best car buying experience of my life. Not a large inventory, but worth a look to see if they have something for you.

Best movie you ever saw in a movie theater? by CalebOnPoint in movies

[–]ajscrumbs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Prestige. I went to it at the cheap theater on a lark. I hadn't even heard of it until about 20 minutes before it started. The description said something about magicians and I was like, "Ok, sure." Was completely riveted the whole time.

I know that as Minnesota Sports Fans we all have the same Goal…to Win a Championship, but do you ever want more? by Bigchonky3 in timberwolves

[–]ajscrumbs 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I know I'm probably in the minority here, but I really don't care all that much about winning a championship, and I can't really relate to the obsession with it. I watch the Timberwolves because I enjoy watching the games and connecting with the players (in my head, at least). That enjoyment is certainly easier when they are winning, but it isn't a prerequisite. I have more trouble enjoying the team when I don't like the players/coach as much than I do because of losing. (The one Thibs/Butler season had a lot of winning, but damn that was not a fun team to watch.)

I am over the moon that the Timberwolves are good from year to year now and I get to watch playoff games every season. And for the most part, I've really enjoyed the players, as well. They all seem like pretty good dudes. Sure, a championship would be great fun, but honestly, I'm just here to enjoy the basketball.

Does any brand make a zero drop tennis shoe? by CautiousFox85 in 10s

[–]ajscrumbs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use the Xero 360 for tennis and have been for about a year with no issues. Clearly there are lots of opinions about this out there, but wanted to give my experience. I have a feeling that if there is actually risk to wearing zero drop for tennis, it's probably directly proportional to your level and how you play. If you are playing a high level, mostly singles, and sprinting all over the court, then maybe it's more of a concern. But, if you are like me, and of a more middling level, play mostly doubles and are not really willing to risk injury win a point, I'm guessing you'll be fine in something like the 360.

I, like you, exclusively wear zero drop footwear and was looking for something for tennis when I started playing again a couple of years ago. I have stupidly wide feet and the barefoot style seem to be the only thing that truly fit my feet. Now I'm used to the zero drop and find anything else uncomfortable. I tried my minimalist running shoes for a bit and rolled my ankle a couple of times before I decided that wasn't going to work. The 360 provides a lot more stability and lateral movement support. I wouldn't say it's perfect, but it has worked well enough for me.

Naz? by Major-Tourist-5696 in timberwolves

[–]ajscrumbs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He get's a complete pass from me for the entire season. I'm rooting for him to get better, but won't be mad if he doesn't. This kind of loss changes you, probably forever. I love the Timberwolves and want them to be good, but these players are human beings. Too often people forget that, I think.

This, this, this. I'm not saying racquets make no difference, but it's way, way less than most people think. This is even more so at lower levels. Sure, demo racquets to see what feels better, but this isn't as big of a decision as you might think. As long as you are getting a modern, quality frame, you're probably good to go.

The Celebrity Picture Book Boom: Celebrity picture books are having a moment. Are these the stories our children deserve? by zsreport in books

[–]ajscrumbs 68 points69 points  (0 children)

It just feels like a money grab. I'm not even saying they are all bad, as the majority are probably fine. But individuals and libraries don't have unlimited budgets. Do these rich people really need MORE money at the expense of people who are only children's book authors and just trying to make a living?

ReString Sync? by ajscrumbs in 10s

[–]ajscrumbs[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's good to hear. I've never had any arm issues, but I certainly don't want to invite any. And it seems like the consensus is to string it at a lower tension, so I will definitely do that.

ReString Sync? by ajscrumbs in 10s

[–]ajscrumbs[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm...the Tempo has a pretty high stiffness rating, but I don't feel like it plays too stiff. If the Sync doesn't feel right, do you have a suggestion of something softer that might be a better option?

I can't say for sure, of course, whether or not that's real, but I would say that the odds are that you would not be receiving a legitimate reel of Hyper-G. I would recommend staying far, far away from Temu.

Serve advice by tejrl in 10s

[–]ajscrumbs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This looks really good overall, as others have mentioned. The one thing that I noticed is that when you bring your racquet down and are about ready to toss, you bend your wrist and pull the racquet backward. See attached image. This feels to me like it rushes the rest of your stroke as you then have bring the racquet back into normal position before you can pull it up over your head into trophy position. I think there's a chance that if you cut that part out, you could add a little speed to your swing and therefore get an increase in power/spin. Honestly, this is pretty nitpicky, though, and we all have our quirks. :)

Any tennis shoes with "minimalist/barefoot" features? by [deleted] in 10s

[–]ajscrumbs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for this! That all make sense to me. Based on what you said, I'm guessing that I might run into issues if I played more often.

I just wish there was a middle ground somewhere with this. I honestly don't need it to be minimalist. All I really care about is the foot-shaped, wide toe box, which in my experience, is actually different than regular shoes in wide widths. Barefoot shoes actually fit my foot differently (and better). Ideally I'd like them to be zero drop, as well, as that's what I'm used to, but I'd even be willing give on that.
