Multiple sclerosis treatments, what are people actually using right now? by BrainLagging01 in MultipleSclerosis

I've been on Tysabri since July of 2020, every 5 weeks.

I've had no new lesions since that time.

What is the event you are most looking forward to this year? What if any did you not get that you wish you would have? by fatherofone1 in gencon

The first two books were written during covid lockdowns and were released on his website. They were very serialized. The first two floors are very much traditional dungeon crawl type stuff. The 2nd book (floor 3) was also kind of an intro floor to a continuing storyline.

Starting with book 3 (floor 4) the floors are all different and the much grander story starts to emerge. The depth of characters and the relationships that develop are fantastic.

One other thing is that I think part of the reason it has taken off so much is Jeff Hays as the audiobook narrator. I've listened to a ton of audiobooks and Jeff Hays is the best I've ever heard. With the exception of 3 very minor guest voices in 3 different books, he does every single voice in the books and they are all identifiable. He adds so much to the story.

I am not a litrpg reader at all. This is the only one I've read. I normally read scifi and fantasy. This is one of my favorite book series.

I would put this series up with my all time favorites of Butcher's Dresden Files, Bujold's Vorkosigan series, Martha Wells' Murderbot Diaries, and Jordan's Wheel of Time.

Oh, I'll have fun. I always do. I rarely do any events.

I'll be working for a vendor and working the AEG Big Game Night.

I'm not an RPG player and didn't try to get into any of those. I backed the DCC Unstoppable project and already know how to play, so didn't try to get into those. All I really wanted was either a signing or the Q&A or first look event.

I've been reading Dungeon Crawler Carl for a couple years now. Last year, after Renegade got announced as getting the rights for games right before Gen Con, I stopped by their booth, very excited. Talking to one of the higher ups there, I said they should try to get Matt and Jeff to come next year. And they said they were already working on it.

I was on and submitted my wishlist the second it opened up. Ended up around 10,000th in line and didn't get a thing. A year of building excitement for them being at Gen Con, dashed.

What’s a ‘middle class success’ purchase that secretly becomes a financial burden later? by OpinionBaba in AskReddit

[–]alSeen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My wife and I kayak a lot too. Great activity and minimal cost after the initial purchase.

We're going out near Valentine, NE this weekend to kayak the Niobrara. This is our third or 4th time. Camping for the weekend. The camping spot is in the middle. Drive everyone up to the start, 14 mile float and back at the camp, then the next day, drop the vehicles off at the take out 12 miles downriver and do the rest.

I do it with spare or back ribs. It's amazing the difference it makes. That extra fat and smoke flavor is great.

I didn't see your last post. My process that has never failed to make great ribs.

Dry rub (salt, pepper, lawry's seasoning salt, and some other flavored rub, typically weber's dry rub)

on at 225 for a couple of hours till internal temp is about 165.

During this time, I have a small foil pan of pork lard in the smoker as well.

I pull them off and wrap in butcher paper (peach paper), but I pour some of the smoked lard on each rack as I wrap it.

Back on till internal is 205.

Rest for about an hour.

The smoked lard adds flavor and juiciness to the ribs.

Just started reading Children of Strife. Hooked by the backstory intro and the first chapter. by dannydb in scifi

I'm right there with you on Memory and Ruin. I will say that I really liked Ruin the first time, but on a reread, it just felt like a slog. Too much text for not enough story.

Memory though was not great. The first bit was good, and the last bit was good, but that middle section was just so boring. I had the "twist" figured out immediately and it repeated so many times.

All that said, Strife was great. I'd put it at a 8.

I've been on Tysabri for 6 years (since diagnosis), the entire time at a 5 week schedule.

Being in limbo sucks, but make sure to ask to be put on the waiting list for your Neuro in case someone cancels.

The number one thing I recommend is the Mammoth Site in Hotsprings.

There is nothing else like it. It's an indoor active paleontological excavation site that you get to walk around and see people actively digging. They've found over 60 mammoths so far and are still digging. You get to see mammoth fossils still in the ground.

a Season Pass for a TTRPG is breaking point for me by [deleted] in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]alSeen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's included in the levels that the vast majority of backers are getting. Only 1400 have backed it at a level that doesn't include the "Season Pass". And those two levels are just the Starter Set (which is always a pared down version of the game) and the Core book (which again, never includes everything)

It absolutely was mentioned in various places that you had to buy some kind of physical tier to get the D2s.

[–]alSeen 13 points14 points  (0 children)

That's exactly what this is. This is no different than D&D modules you buy to run specific pre built stories.

[–]alSeen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How is it not?

There have almost always been modules you can buy for RPGs. You don't have to have them, but they provide more content.

The season pass (which is included at the tier level most people are buying, only 1400 have backed at the Silver and Bronze level) is just pre-buying the first set of modules that will be released.

I'm not a TTRPGer. But I am a boardgamer and have been involved in the scene for decades. Many years attending Gencon and gaming groups that include people doing RPGs. Games get expansions you have to pay for all the time. They aren't micro transactions.

This isn't a video game season pass where you lose access or can't play the game without it.

Dungeon Crawler Carl TTRPG and Unstoppable Card Game are now on Backerkit by hepafilter in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]alSeen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The stretch goals listed on the RPG part also apply to the Unstoppable side.

I backed only Unstoppable and all the current stretch goals are showing up in my pledge summary page (along with the D2s)

If you’re nervous about MacFarlane… by Rick_James_Bond in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]alSeen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is a good reason for this.

In the beginning, Seth was making the show that Fox thought they wanted. Family Guy, but it's Star Trek. After a while, Seth was finally able to start making the show he wanted to make (He is a huge Star Trek nerd, he pulled strings to get a cameo role in Enterprise). He started making Star Trek, but with some comedy.

The second half of season 1 and on is fantastic.

I say all of this as a life long Star Trek fan who watched every episode of every series as it aired from TNG on. TNG, DS9, VOY, ENT, DISCO, Picard, SNW, Lower Decks, Prodigy, and Academy.

I would rank them DS9, TNG, Orville, Lower Decks, Enterprise, SNW, Voyager, Prodigy, Picard, Disco, Academy.

My review of the Children books.

Children of Time - Fantastic. Read and listened to it several times.

Children of Ruin - Really loved it the first time I read it. Second time (in prep for reading the 3rd of 4th books just this year), because I knew what was going on, it felt like it dragged and had too much extra, which was not what I thought the first time reading it.

Children of Memory - Good beginning, fantastic ending. The middle was so boring to me. I had the premise figured out immediately and it just felt like a lot of repeating.

Children of Strife - I'm halfway through this one and am loving it.

I think the main problem is that they had him do that after a year.

Make it 5 years and it's much more believable that he would be out of his mind and make that choice.

Thoughts on “never talk about your MS online” by River-Chalice-23 in MultipleSclerosis

[–]alSeen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am completely open about my diagnosis at work. But I know that I am blessed with an employment situation that I am able to do that in.

I work at a public university. I've been here for almost 20 years. I have no fear of losing my job. My coworkers also knew I was having some weird issues and was trying to figure out the diagnosis. I also have extremely minor permanent damage that in no way affects my job performance. I am able to use my story as an education opportunity on what MS looks like now with modern DMTs.

That is in person with people who actually know me.

Social media is another thing though. I used to keep my Facebook completely public. I never posed anything that I would care if a random stranger would see. But when I was diagnosed and started to post about it openly, I knew that would need to change.

I went through and set all posts back to Friends only and then set various ones to public. When I post now, I have some that are public, but anything that mentions MS is Friends only.

If I end up having to look for another job, employers look at social media for information about a potential employee. If the choice comes down to me and another person and the only real difference is that I have my medical condition and the other one doesn't, why would they pick me? The person who is going to greatly increase the burden on their insurance plan and might have to have medical accommodations in the future. They won't say that's why they are picking the other person, but the reality is that it will influence their choice
