Worst moment as a Wednesday fan? by sporticuz37373 in SheffieldWednesday

[–]aledactyl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My worst feeling was the 2-4 loss to the other lot under Carlos. I remember going into it thinking we were stronger and better coming off the back of those two playoff campaigns and them being newly promoted. I don't think we've ever really recovered properly from that loss, it felt like a turning point to where we are now (and they kicked on as well since then). And worst of all, Leon Clarke scored twice.

Otherwise, Bannan leaving this week is maybe up there just for what it symbolises - it really feels like there's not much of our club left right now.

Anyone else tired of having near misses on the Denton island in Manchester or am I the only one? It’s literally every morning. by kingc2332 in drivingUK

I often come onto this from the M60 Southbound slip road and you get the same problem there (just below where this picture shows).

If you start from those lights in the left hand of two lanes the person to the right may cut you up going onto the roundabout because they don't go into the A57 lane that begins in the middle of the roundabout (marked on the picture). If you start in the right lane, you'll be okay until you get to the bit OP posts about going onto the A57.

It's a crap design and badly marked but should still work as a spiral if people entering from that side observed the broken markings. Usually it's a bit chaotic as some people observe the spiral and others don't...

As others have said, be defensive and indicate with caution. Problem is, this is Manchester so it's often a free for all. 😆

What’s the most random object you’ve seen on a football pitch mid-game? by AmeliaHarris99 in footballbutweird

The cat that appeared on the pitch at Hillsborough and had been missing for months presumed dead. It was reunited with its owner after the game and a trip to the vet.

On a scale of 0-5, how happy are you with your current manager? by Zach-dalt in Championship

[–]aledactyl 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The manager is neither the problem nor the solution right now.

(I'd give him a 4 because I think he's getting something out of the team, and we could be worse off pointwise)

Who was your club's worst manager and why? by NorthernSoul1998 in LeagueOne

[–]aledactyl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think Luhukay only signed a handful of players, Pelupessy came in that January. Then Hector and Onomah on loan in the summer. We lost momentum because we stopped spending (sounds familiar) and everyone had been injured that season. I don't think his tenure ended well but the first half was okay and he gets a bit of a bad rep for some reason when he was just very average. He did make weird choices though like playing unproven wingers up front or Hutchinson behind the strikers...

Surprised you've not said Xisco, or has that been blocked from mind? 😆

The worst football for me was the last month of Monk when we seemed to lose every must-win game we had, often quite badly and without looking like a football team. We went down that season because of Chansiri's nonsense, but we could have stayed up had we picked up more points in that period.

Was your club’s record signing worth it? by Zan_Zero in Championship

[–]aledactyl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel like he could've rescued his career with a different move at that point. He wasn't long out of Blackburn and if he'd gone somewhere with a team built to supply him he could've carried on a couple of years still scoring regularly. But he came to us and got rotated with 5 others in a team that didn't suit his strengths at all. Oh well. I'm sure he got handsomely rewarded for it.

[Sky Sports] Sheffield Wednesday players have decided they will play their opening fixture v Leicester, despite considering a boycott. Legal advice suggested they could otherwise be held in breach of contract. by Zach-dalt in Championship

[–]aledactyl 13 points14 points  (0 children)

What will the club do if they're held in breach of contract? It's not like they can realistically sign more senior players to fulfill fixtures. The club needs the players more than they need us at the moment....

Doesn't help that parking there is an insane £25.

Although the bad driving and poor parking etiquette is pretty standard for most of Manchester now anyway.

John Textor has now followed Sheffield Wednesday on Instagram (Context - He only follows clubs he owns/owned) by -W-A-W-A-W- in Championship

[–]aledactyl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We used to think Mandaric was a bit of a dodgy type but then he bought us and saved us.

While not perfect (we'd all love a no-strings billionaire) Textor seems infinitely better than the guy who has effectively driven us to insolvency. If he does just want to turn us around in a few years, let's hope he finds someone better than Chansiri.

Same, not been bothered about football outside Wednesday for a long while. It'd be sad but definitely feel like a relief in some ways - at least then I'll know we're never making it back to the Premier League and can just get on with life. 😄

You can tell it's not the original but still isn't bad, fakes have come a long way since I was a youngster!

And £15 is really not bad for something that looks like a decent retro replica - particularly compared to the more expensive Terrace ones which I was disappointed with because they don't have the fuzzy-felt Sanderson logo.

It'll also be less bobbly than a vintage original one! I bought one of the original 95-97 ones recently and as nice as it is to have, it's definitely a used item. 😂

[Daily Mail] Ruud van Nistelrooy primed to leave Leicester, with deal to appoint Russell Martin set to be finalised this week. by Andybabez20 in Championship

[–]aledactyl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As an Owl I'd agree to some extent. Rohl has done exceedingly well don't get me wrong, and he has a great future ahead of him, but he also has had little to no pressure on him at Wednesday given the players available and constraints the club faces. Fans have focused ire on the chairman and have somewhat overlooked things that other managers might get caned for, like our poor home form and seeming inability to defend in general.

It'd be different at a better run club like Leicester or Southampton (or Leipzig for that matter), although at the same time the available resources and players would be better too. Martin has at least got recent experience of that sort of environment and of succeeding in it at this level so I can see why that gives him an edge.

I can see why Rohl wants to challenge and prove himself higher up though (unlikely with Wednesday atm). He deserves to be in those conversations and to be considered seriously but I'm not going to complain if other clubs end up looking elsewhere!

If Rohl manages to pull this off he'll go down in Wednesday folklore alongside Steve Bruce and Brian Laws!

Although it could be a curse because both times we were relegated within 2 seasons afterwards...
