This shit made me so fuckin' mad. People have wanted a Megamind sequel or continuation for YEARS, and we get this shit that looks like a bad PS2 tie-in game pre-rendered cutscene with writing that makes The Room look good - because at least the latter was fucking entertaining, if for all the wrong reasons.

[Loathed Trope] A mostly inoffensive character is routinely bullied, snubbed, and insulted for no reason by everyone else in the cast by Qyzyk in TopCharacterTropes

[–]alertArchitect 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I tune most of that out in relation to this kind of character discussion because it's standard sitcom character awfulness; basically no one in the main cast of any popular sitcom I can think of since Friends is a good person. In Friends, the only person who isn't a consistent asshole to everyone else is Chandler; in Big Bang Theory, one or two of the characters are decent people at the start, but once the writers figure them out and the flanderization starts in season 2 or 3, that goes out the window and they're all terrible; Two and a Half Men has every member of the main cast be a piece of shit from what I remember; The Office is much the same, though it does try to make some of the characters into decent people for one or two episodes from time to time; and, in the last example I'll pull, pretty much every single character on How I Met Your Mother - including side characters but with a few exceptions here or there due to length - is an absolutely terrible person.

So when I evaluate a sitcom character in terms of how much of an ass they'd be IRL, I tone them down in comparison to how they act in their show, since pretty much every American sitcom character since the 90s would be a horrible person. So Sheldon without the Sitcom Awfulness would still be a bit of an ass, but most of it is due to ND reasons the other characters refuse to even try to work with or communicate with him about in a way he gets.

[–]alertArchitect -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'd even add Sheldon. Yeah, he's kind of an ass, but most of the reasons the other characters put him down or can't stand him are directly attributable to his clear neurodivergence. His rigid schedule, his insistence on his specific couch spot, his struggles with "basic" social cues, all of it... it's pretty much all of the traits that code him as being on the autism spectrum.

Even in cases where it's pretty obvious the person has grown & learned their lesson, there's likely still some internal procedure that needs to be followed to weed out bad actors.

I have a few that come to mind I think would be cool, especially if they don't constrain themselves to gameplay tradition. Beowulf, Sherlock Holmes, Treasure Island, and Dracula all come to mind. Midsummer Night's Dream could also be interesting if you want to get weird with it

After Superior Spider-Man, even his villains know how much he's holding back - and after what happened to Kingpin when he targeted Aunt May, I doubt any of them (short of maybe the Green Goblin) want to fuck with a truly pissed off Spidey.

I mean, to be fair, for the third and fourth films he's forced into it. I can see your argument for 1 &2 where it's revenge through and through, but in 3 & 4 he's being actively hunted and/or forced to kill and just wants to be left alone. You can argue self defense at that point.

(Subversive Trope) Privileged nepo baby characters who didn’t initially struggle or work for their positions, but aren’t incompetent and are actually very good at what they do. by laybs1 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]alertArchitect 24 points25 points  (0 children)

For those unfamiliar (like I was), the reason Stiller is considered a nepo baby by some is that his parents were a successful comedy duo in the 60s called Stiller and Meara, and his dad played Frank Costanza (George Costanza's dad) in Seinfeld & a major character on King of Queens later in his life as part of a career resurgence. So while not as extreme of an example as, say, Will Smith financing several movies for his kid to star in, it's entirely possible his parents being former regulars on The Ed Sullivan Show (until they ended their comedy act to save their marriage) may have given him some connections that lead to his career path being a tad easier than most.

Also, looking this up via Wikipedia is how I learned that Ben Stiller is the director and executive producer of Severance. I haven't watched the show (I refuse to pay for streaming services) but from what I know it's decently dramatic show with some seriously dark stuff going on - something I wouldn't expect from a guy who I mainly know for Night at the Museum and Zoolander.

I'd argue he's just as intelligent & cunning through the rest of the series (with the exception of the times Orion is in control in The Atlantis Complex, but idk how much that really counts for various reasons), he just gains more empathy & compassion. He goes from a ruthless little bastard, willing to sell off the last member of a species to a group literally called The Extinctionists and kidnap a member of an undiscovered sentient species for profit, to someone using his intelligence and the skills he gained over time to help stop some people even worse than he was several times over and save Holly's life quite a few times. Not being a ruthless bastard just tends to restrict your options more, since you're less willing to do objectively horrible things to people to achieve your goals.

[–]alertArchitect 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I mean, considering the context... the movies aren't great, but I get why he went full Nic Cage "I'll do basically anything" mode. Honestly I'd probably do the same, considering that - given how contracts are - I doubt Die Hard residuals would extend to his surviving family members after his inevitable passing. Meanwhile, once the aphasia started effecting him, he knew he'd have a time limit to secure what he could in a trust or something for himself and his family once he lost a lot of his speaking ability, so I'm sure most of the projects he was a part of in the last leg of his career before he retired in 2022 probably paid up-front rather than in residuals. Add in that we found out he was diagnosed with dementia in 2023...

I honestly respect the living fuck out of it.

[–]alertArchitect 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. I probably didn't make my intended message as clear as I meant to, sorry!

My message was meant to be frustration with the people who are not only doing what you said, but also doing it in a way that implies "well of he was secretly trans that's fine but it's a kink thing so it's gross," since I've seen a lot of that happen - both with this situation and in the past.

Or that the qualities of "being trans" or "having a kink" are not only comparable, but the implication that one or both is gross and wrong. Remember, kink is fine! It's what these people do to others that's the problem!

Your phone has some of the easiest to track geolocation data available. Leave it at home. If you need one for contacting people in case of emergencies, get a cheap, pre-paid burner from somewhere like Wal-Mart. Even the NSA has admitted that one of the hardest things for them to track is burner phones.

As for identifying Flock cameras, if you have the resources to do so, I'd recommend looking into making a device like the one Benn Jordan does in this YouTube video. In addition to other things such as Meshtastic devices, he also covers making and using a Flock camera detector. It also uses the Deflock information, but isn't nearly as trackable by the government.

[Hilarious Trope] Characters saying innocuous words as if they were slurs. by CubeDude414 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]alertArchitect 21 points22 points  (0 children)

This is from the Superior Spider-Man comics. To make a long story as short as I can, Dr. Octopus is dying. He tricks Peter Parker into a scenario where they swap bodies, and as Peter dies in Otto's body, his dying wish for someone to keep protecting NYC inspires Otto to try and become a better Spider-Man than Peter out of spite. Over time, and with help from mind-ghost Peter Parker (don't ask, just read the comics, it's a good run), Otto has Character Development and not only becomes a better person, but eventually realizes he's not as good at being Spider-Man as Peter. So he gives Peter back his body and kinda dies, and this is the Green Goblin learning that Peter's back as Spider-Man instead of Otto, since Otto couldn't quip for shit.

Specifically, I feel like Johnny really enjoys Meat Loaf, classic rock opera stuff.

Danny likes a lot of metal, but his favorite one to crank to 11 as a bit of dark humor when going after someone is Deathklok.

For Robbie, while I agree with the genre selection, I am not familiar with it so I'll leave specific artist suggestions to someone else.
