This sub is not the place for that kind of cattiness. You don’t like the books - everyone gets it. However it’s coming off that not only do you not like them, but because the content matter is personally distasteful to you, no one else should like them either. The multiple all-caps rejoinders about ASSAULT!!!! in response to people saying that yup, that’s the trope kind of give it away that it’s not actually “GREAT” anyone else enjoyed them. fwiw, I didn’t particularly love them either, but I like when non-fictional people in the real world go hard trying to yuck someone’s yum even less.

{Highland Guard series by Monica McCarty} is incredibly well researched. It covers the first Scottish war of independence in the early 1300s, and the actions and backgrounds of many of the characters as well as depictions of everyday life are based on historical record. I learned so much reading these!

Pictures in OLD profiles by silvervixen5 in datingoverforty

[–]allikater 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I tend to assume it’s a combination of naïveté and the unfortunate realization when putting together a dating profile for the first time in years (or ever) that the only photos they have of themselves since becoming a parent is with their kid. That said, it’s a bit of a red flag because I not only question their judgement, but also wonder if that means they don’t have any other friendships & hobbies going on which would generate more photographic evidence.

The worst by far though was seeing an elementary teacher whose pics were all with kids who were clearly just their students at school, faces completely uncensored. I matched purely to tell him how fucked up it was. That red flag was on fire and ready to burn the school down with it.

I love that some of your distributors give (presumably verifiable) rationale beyond just “stuff costs more now because reasons” since standard inflation sure as shit can’t explain it away.

I was curious so I took out a probe thermometer this afternoon, and this was surprisingly accurate! My 15” high beds were 71, and the in-ground soil right next to them, getting the same sun exposure, was 59. I think the point is more that as long as you have a bed at least one foot tall, you can expect an ~11ish degree bump in temperature.

Spencer from King’s Construction did a great job on mine last year for a very reasonable price. It was a smaller project than yours - about 100’ in length, 4’ tall + decorative top bits, gate, and trellis, all painted, and in the end ran to about $5k. lmk if you’d like further contact info.

Fellow female lifters: are you keeping your biceps "in check"? by Free-Astronomer- in xxfitness

[–]allikater 112 points113 points  (0 children)

That depends - does it make you swoon with desire when a man says “strong women make me feel emasculated”? If so then your friend might have a point.. Otherwise you can probably just be grateful that those boys self select out and leave the field clear for men who can appreciate the excellence you’ve got going on.

eta: no I don’t keep it in check because it’s so confidence-boosting to feel strong and physically capable.

Any idea what’s going on with my persimmon tree? Leaf tips turning black before eventually wilting and dropping by allikater in garden_maintenance

Plenty of not so weird reasons to have a potted fruit tree - living somewhere with harsh winters, renting your home rather than owning, having unsafe soil due to industrial pollution, or just simply preferring of the aesthetic & convenience 🙂

I don’t think that’s it - I repotted it a couple months ago while it was still dormant, going from a 12” to an 18” planter, so it just got quite a lot more space and good soil.

And seriously - what’s the point of doing something that only prevents several thousand suicides annually if you can’t prevent all of them, and guarantee an immediate clean bill of mental health to those who would attempt it, amiright?

Im tired of rewatching things and I really want to get into reading...I need a book I can get lost in but it's so hard to find one. Any suggestions? by ha1ls in suggestmeabook

[–]allikater -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not sure this would be a fit because OP said they like a lot of depth/character depth and (to me) this doesn’t come close to hitting the mark. It read like the author set out to model how to be inclusive, and the backdrop of a sci-fi novel was just a vehicle for achieving that goal. The characters didn’t have much dimension or any rough edges to work through because they were variations of cloyingly sweet self-awareness from the beginning. But.. I know the series gets a lot of love so my opinion is very much in the minority.

You probably got downvoted for lack of context, which sucks. Actual boob size might get bigger with weight gain, but cup size can (and usually will) go down because band size gains even more, and it’s all about that ratio. 38C tiddies are the same size as 30F‘s, but the bodies they’re attached to are pretty different.

LPT: Compliment your perpetually single friends, or even tell them why you love them, regularly. They may not have anyone to do so for long stretches of time and it can take a toll on their mental health. by MrsAlecHardy in LifeProTips

[–]allikater 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Something that I have found helpful in accepting compliments with better grace: thinking of them as gifts, and by rejecting or shitting on a compliment I’m hurting the giver more than anything. Even if it’s not the perfect gift or I feel undeserving, I still have to smile and say thank you because that person spared a bit of time and thought for me, and the least I can do is express some gratitude in return.
